It seems that the two race leaders have been seduced by the undoubted comforts of the Abiquiu Inn. They will have had a fine dinner in the restaurant and are now into the seventh hour of sleep in boutique bedrooms, normally occupied by devotees of the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. The Abiquiu Inn is the most luxurious pit stop in the entire route and for the first time visitor comes as a pleasant surprise after the contrasting features of Vallecitos and El Rito.
If JP and NB have ideas of crossing the finishing line together with a new record, as some have suggested, they may have to think again. While they are sleeping, JK is already on his bike, heading downhill to Abiquiu, only 27 miles behind.

I just rec'd a text from Dylan Thomas that one of the front six escapees has fallen to a broken fork. Seb Dunne is likely out of the race, and apparently lucky to be in one piece after shearing his fork clean off while negotiating the Brazos. He will hike out tomorrow.
I had lunch at HORCA yesterday while he and a couple other riders were there. I didn't bother them, but I do live in the area. As it turns out, I am going to Chama today with a guy who owns a 4WD truck. I will plead with him to take a detour and offer Seb a ride into Chama. I can't make any promises. The guy's truck is filled with construction material, workers, and I have no idea how tight his schedule is. There may not be time nor room, but I will make the effort.

The upcoming finale is going to be better than the finale of '89 Tour de France. This year's TDR will be one to remember!

It looks like Josh caught up to the two leaders as they were sleeping!

Neil and JayP actually got to Abiquiu after everything closed last night so they both slept and were waiting for a store to open to resupply. They should be on the move shortly - and extremely well rested!

Neil posted on IG that he was waiting for a store to open to re-supply before the tough section to Cuba.
With a good night sleep for Neil and JayP I don't think Josh could hang on ... but who knows?

It has been suggested that Salsa Cycles, with its launch of Cutthroat to coincide with this year's Tour Divide, is somehow attempting to co-opt the event. The timing was simply a smart marketing move from a brand that for years has demonstrated passion and commitment to this form of cycling. And let's not forget the deal Salsa made with Pie-O-Neer to provide sustenance to the riders.

This section between Abiquiu and Cuba is pretty hard with the broken-rock-slab/sand tango danced on top of the mesas. Some of it's really tiring riding.

Dang, I don't know if I'll get any sleep until they finish. I definitely won't get much work done... this has been exciting!

Tell me about it. And the time difference does not work for me either.

The last group of TD riders stopped in yesterday @ the Montana High Country Lodge, spent the night and pressed on to Lima this morning.
