Looks like JP and Neil just clicked it up a gear Edit - Josh appears to have stopped moving?

They all seem to be pretty much aligned on their bike speeds so it seems like it'll come down to who closes this out with the best sleep strategy over the final two days. Fingers crossed no mechanical's come into play. What a finish we're going to have.

I am suprised to see NB keeping such a pace in the flats on a 1x compared to JP with his big road rings up front. I guess the difference will show in the next couple hundred miles.....

This is all very civil but I want to see a break. Otherwise we get the Whalley repeat. Kurt you would have attacked hard six times by now you beast. MegaLove for Kato who is on the prowl and excites. Get up and go brother and chase those sponsored jerseys.

Wow! It's 4 in the morning and Dylan still hasn't slept. Nice, cool riding conditions, I guess.
Awesome riding going on, by so many folk. Amazing to see the pointy end of things getting even more tightly contested in NM.
Big thanks to Scott and Matthew for organising such a grand tour!

JP first out after barely more than 3 hrs sleep in Milan. NB also less than 4 hrs sleep in a different location in Milan. But JK, lurking 20 miles outside Milan, seems to be taking 5 hrs sleep. Can he catch up?

What a ride from Will Bodewes. He was 50th in Butte and is now 10th!!! Totally riding like a veteran and he's only 17 years old.

It's 'Run for the Roses'
....been used as an unofficial theme for the Kentucky Derby. The chorus mentions "the chance of a lifetime in a lifetime of chance" at once describing the experience of horse racing and life itself.

I noticed the Billy Rice facebook comment "29+ rocks!! Rail trail, what rail trail???"
I'm thinking of a 29+ for TD2016 but cant finds one out my way to test ride, has anyone else had experience on them?

I think that for most of the route you'd be cursing the high rolling resistance. I'm sure they'd be good on a few sections but for overall? I don't know. Thats a lot of weight in the wrong place. But what do I know I've never rode one for more than a couple of minutes. This race is really getting exciting. Looks like JP made his move this morning. Can he put some distance on NB and JK?

Salsa Ti vs Salsa carbon...73mm conventional vs PF41... Bet the Salsa marketing guys are salivating. "Salsa - leading the pack in endurance racing." "Salsa - we're #1 AND #2!" "Salsa - record-breaking performance."

Last year I rode a lot with Montana Miller who finished 9th on a Krampus running Knards and flat pedals (singlespeed, no less). Lots of suspension and they absolutely crush going downhill (sounded a bit like a truck overtaking me). Probably depends on how the pressure is dialed to find the sweet spot between supple and bouncy. They obviously work for some. New Mexico would be where they'd especially shine (washboards, sand pits, ogre-tooth road surfaces, etc.). I'm a little torn between envy for the good conditions/track this year and feeling lucky to watch all this play out on the dot board (hard to do while drooling along hunched over aerobars in the middle of nowhere). Just a classic contest.

JP appears to be putting the hammer down. A bit early for a sprint, so maybe he's worried there won't be enough pie for everyone?

Looks like JayP wants to be the first to taste that free pie. Only thing better than pie is free pie... Great race out there.
