Guaranteed Josh is having fun!
I'm guessing the top three will be done sometime tomorrow?

Pie Town showdown looks like it's about to start. Estimates on finishing times from those who know the route...under 15d for sure, no? how much under? assuming all goes as it has.

10 minute bonus for each slice of pie consumed? Seems fair to me.

Looking at the leaderboard and the record splits -- JP took roughly 36 hours from Pie to the border. Sub-15 for sure.

Just looked at NOAA, 70% chance of rain day and night for the next few days between Abiquiu and Cuba. And looks similar all the way from Colorado.

And didn't Jay deal with a ton of flats in the Gila?

By changing the scale on the route profile to 10 mile steps on the grid, you can really see how Neil and Josh are closing the gap to Jay.
I'll put my colours out there and say I think that Neil will take it. Why? He's pulled in every break that Jay has made and it's strongly indicative that he's got the better raw pace during this race so far. Josh - he'll get the boost of having something to chase, and will certainly have them in his view eventually, but the effort to catch them will surely take a toll, plus Neil and Jay seem to have better raw pace. Jay - with his experience will certainly be able to adapt his end game strategy on the fly better than anyone out there. As I write I think that maybe that negates Neil's pace ....
This is an amazing finish. And to think both Dylan and Alex are under race record pace but not in the top three!!!

Is Jay blowing up? Or is he letting himself get reeled in after seeing his road gearing can drop Neil's 1x no problem? Maybe he is going to sit in for 150 miles then go for it when he know he won' t be caught?
How is Josh gonna factor into this end run?
Awesome racing!

I'd say JayP is playing this just the way he planned. He's been moderating his pace over the last couple days, keeping his reserves topped up for the final push.

Sounds as though spectators will be at finish? Is there an official line?

just over two weeks ago I noticed all sorts of strangely-loaded bikes rolling past the store I work at in Banff...over the following days met some of the TD riders in my store, at the coffee shop, out on the Banff/Canmore bike path and learned all about the race. so awesome! can't believe these men and women and how far they've pedalled over the past few weeks. very cool to watch the last few miles playing out...give 'er.

his road gearing can drop Neil's 1x no problem?
I read a number of articles when choosing a road bike on bike gearing and overall pace impacts, and the common thread was that given that the number of people who can really push the big gears at 90-100 rpm on the flat can be counted on the fingers of a careless woodsman, the gearing issue may not be such a significant factor. Of course, I see just now that Jay pulled out a mile on Neil on a slight downhill ....
