I agree, but mandatory rest breaks in effect automatically create a multi-stage event, even if the competitors start from different points each day.  Also, what would the parameters be?  Everyone stops from 10pm to 5 am?  Everyone rests for at least 6 consecutive hours in a 24 hour period?  Personally, I think the present "system", where racers monitor their own bodies and make appropriate decisions based on their own abilities is the best plan.

It's not that hard. They've been doing in NZ since 2010. And it will be done in 2016 for http://www.touraotearoa.nz ( length of NZ)  its just a different approach. Theyve never had a sprint finish either FYI. Just a bit different : )
The TD is already pretty inventive I reckon. You can do it from each end, or as an ITT. It's cool.

Take a look a this format, very social & fun. Plus you still race at you own pace because you choose what time to start each stage.
Only extra work for organizer is find the legal group camping/ timeout spots.

Alex Harris just finished!  Nice.  Still ahead of the former men's record.  Excellent effort.

Looking at splits quickly... What's a guess at Lael's possible finishing time? 17 1/2 day range? Phenomenal riding this year all the way through the pack. Great work everyone.

I got ripped a new one by Toby Gadd, who freaked out at the idea. He basically said that the only people who would want this are those not tough enough to do the real race. He and about two other guys were amazingly insulting about it.

I read the exchange of ideas last year and I don't think anyone was "insulting" - they just said that the TD is the TD, and if you want another event then simply try to start one. Remember that the TD is the successor event to the GDMBR as Matt Lee came up with a better format which was more accessible. I miss Toby Gadd on this forum as he was fearless about pointing out breaches of the rules as he saw them.

Sleep strategy: I completely get the safety issue, but you've got to let people race their race and choose their own risk levels. Some will ride down Fleecer Ridge; some will walk. Some will free camp with the bears; some will sleep in motels or camp grounds. Some will hang their food; some will fall asleep with half eaten food on their chests.

Why does track leaders show the finishing order: Jay, Neil, Josh? And not Josh, Jay, Neil?

The leaderboard looks to me that it shows the correct order and finish times when you rank the times at Antelope Wells.

Would Lael have been significantly faster if she had been healthy at the start? I'm excited to read her race report. Anyone have an estimate of when she might finish?

How much do you think the excellent weather and conditions played into all the fast times this year, or are there just more fast riders? The records are being crushed. Any short reports from the finishers yet?

The leaderboard is correct, the list of finishers by status is different. (minor issue)

I think the lack of snow was probably a big factor. In a different year, with a lot more snow on the first 1/3 of the route, the results could be quite different, imo.
