Mile 4ish is when you come around a small hill that blocks the boarder and you can see the gate!!! I went wild here last year with Joy! I was singing Glory Halelujah and Amazing Grace!!! I was jumping in the saddle and my rear tire was going flat but I didn't care. Josh, Jay and Neil will be celebrating soon too! It's an amazing feeling seeing the end and knowing you can finally sleep and eat!
About that time, I was listening to Queen and trying to find the song about "I love to ride my bicycle ...", never did find it but still love my bicycle.

That is one of the approved alternates as the dirt road around El Malpais can be impassable when wet.
and has been a Mandarory alternate for at least the past three years.

I don't think anyone would be bold enough to claim an official mileage, least of all me.  The # shown on trackleaders is likely somewhat inflated.  If I wanted to get the most accurate number, I would take the official ACA mileage (from the maps) and subtract the difference between the 2014 and 2015 files.

The 10k GPX track is likely too low.  The trackleaders # is too high.  The truth is somewhere in between.

Hope that helps a little.
I think that the Trackleaders number is what people went with last year, which supports Striker's idea.  Again last year, I think the number moved around a bit during the race and settled.  I plan to use 2,753 for a window sticker, but will probably wait a while to see if Matthew adjusts things by the time the last riders arrive at AW.

My wife and I are touring the GDMBR. Late this afternoon, we ran into Jeff Taylor a few miles north of Holland Lake Lodge. He was in fine spirits, despite a mishap in Colorado, and was aiming for Ferndale tonight.

For the record ...

I finished my SoBo ITT Tuesday, July 7th, at 12:15 am.  Based on my start time; Friday June 5th, 6 am, that's 31 days, 18 hrs, 15 minutes.  Just called MTBCast in the last few minutes.  I forgot to call once we were up on I-10 and had connectivity and have been in a semi-coma state here in AZ for a day.  Spent today catching up on something like 83 pages of this topic alone on Bikepacking.net.

My goal was 30 days, but I missed it by almost two days.  However, I did trim 4 days and 1 hr off of last year.  I'm most proud that I raced the whole way, in my own slow fashion, and did the entire race Solo.  It's different out there when there's no one but you and the stars to talk to.  But, each to his own.  My Spottracker stats are whacked because I'm ITT, but have asked them to fix them up and mark me as Finished.

Thanks to all supporting the race directly or indirectly.  There are a lot of motel and little store owners out there who invest a lot of energy and love into helping us along.  Also, thanks to Trackleaders and MTBCast for helping to connect us to the rest of the world.  There are a lot of people who are exposed to ultra racing because of them.  Don't forget to donate to them.  The resources they use aren't free.

Thanks,l

Hi All, if you could do all the cyclists still planning on doing the TD throughout the next month a favor and get this piece of info out it might keep them from a panic attack upon approaching Huckleberry Pass.  From the Big Blackfoot Chapter of Trout Unlimited:

"We are going to be replacing two culverts up in Lincoln and they are on the route from Beaver Creek Road through to Huckleberry Pass.  The road will be closed to vehicle traffic from July 15-Aug 15, but the contractors will be happy to assist bikers across the two work sites when they arrive.

So, if they seen a road closed sign they can proceed ahead and hopefully timing will be such that the contractors will be on –site and can help them across the stream."

Thank you for passing this along!
Carry On!

Interestingly, Nathan Mawkes and I did the last 60 miles to the finish between 1900 and midnight in 2013, and it was an awesome way to finish I felt.  gave me a lot of time to reflect I what I had achieved with very little in the way of distractions.

I left Separ at dusk this year, and spent most of the last 65 miles riding to AW in the dark, by myself. I was hyper-focused for those last miles but also enjoyed the time to reflect and really soak things in. Pushed hard until the last 1/2 mile and then sat up and coasted in and enjoyed the finish.

Bill,

I met your wife and son in Separ earlier Monday evening as I was prepping for my last push. I saw you guys slow down on the way back but was too focused on getting to the end to stop and chat. Apologies for the rudeness and I'm glad your ITT went well.

They only slowed because they weren't sure you had support waiting at the end.  Considered going back but thought you said your family was on the way.  No rudeness, that's not a time to stop and chat.  Congrats on finish.  That's kind of a nice time of night out there. Sort of a shame to stop.

Hey, does anyone or everyone but me know where to send the trackers? I've emailed ML and track leaders and have gotten no response. Plan on doing the CTR so I'd kinda like to get this taken care of and get my spot for the CTR. Thanks
