This is delayed by 48 hours due to an SAR call out but  didn't want to forget to add to Pacific's photo of our Official #1 NOBO, Jeff Taylor who arrived here around 5:30 pm on July 7.  He was a bit worse for wear after the last few weeks but was thrilled that someone actually called out his name and acknowledged his existence.  Apparently while traveling near Kremmling CO in a massive storm a cottonwood came down with one of the overly large and heavy branches actually hitting him, knocking him unconscious or close to it.  He spent the next 3 days healing and repairing bike damage.  And yet he continued and is less than 550 miles to the finish of his 2700+ mile adventure.

Good Job Jeff!
and you can now carry on!

Yes Jeff Taylor!  Way to persevere.  So glad I had the chance to visit with you briefly at Bowlin's CTD Store in Separ on our way north.  Those Kipper snacks sure looked delicious!

Finish strong my friend thumbsup

We want to be in Separ when our husbands go through. How long will it take for them to get to Separ from Silver City? They are riding at a 28 day pace, Peter Yerger and John Bowers. We were going to stay at Lordsburg but don't know when to get there. They are 61 miles north of Silver City at 5:00 pm Thursday. Anyone who has done the race or picked up that can help us out, that would be great! We are both 5 hours away from Lordsburg. Nancy

Maybe 4 or 5 hrs depending on the wind.  You want to be heading for Separ right now.

Also, if they're North of Silver City, then they'll probably stop and refuel which will add to time to get to Separ.

They only slowed because they weren't sure you had support waiting at the end.  Considered going back but thought you said your family was on the way.  No rudeness, that's not a time to stop and chat.  Congrats on finish.  That's kind of a nice time of night out there. Sort of a shame to stop.

Yeah. I had planned on having support at the end. There was a misunderstanding between my family, myself, and the data on Trackleaders. I ended up spending a very peaceful, but windy two hours at the border station waiting for my ride. Border patrol got a show when I changed out of my chamois and kit into something a little less damp and warmer. I got a show from them when they caught two different groups of people attempting to sneak over the fence. I really wanted my family there for the finish, but in the end, it was an appropriate end to my first race and gave me some time to just sit and reflect on what I had accomplished.

Speaking of Steve where's he going? So close, but yet so far away...

Yeah. Chalk this one up to rookie mistake of rushing out of Silver City and not double checking the maps to make sure I knew what was going on. Garmin had on occasion beeped "off course" due to the 10K route cutting corners. It did that right at the turn at White Signal, and I ignored it figuring it was one of those cutting corner issues. Bonus 16 miles or so and two extra CD crossings outta that one. I have a number of people here at home that aren't going to forgive me for the heart attacks I gave them Monday afternoon. Cheesy

I was really lucky that the winds worked out in my favor for the remainder of the push to AW. I was flying really good on the NE-SW gravel ridgeline and I had a nice quartering tailwind all the way into AW. It was a very pleasant ride as as just put the headphones on in Hachita and counted down the miles, stopping to eat and stretch about every 15 miles or so. About Mile 3, Christopher Cross' "Ride like the Wind" came via shuffle and ended right at mile marker 1. At that point, I just pulled my earphones out of my ears as there was really no better song to end the race with.

60 miles N of silver city at 5 PM means hitting that CDT alternate section during the dark. UGH...

Does anyone have any more info on this water source or other general info about this detour for people touring the route?  I assume its 40 miles north of Wamsutter and probably connected to a drill site?  Starting a tour of the route next week and this looks a good alternative to Rawlins.

The water source is a solar powered pump filling a cow trough on the LH side of the rode. It's pretty easy to spot and is maybe 20 or 25 yards off of the road. There are no "No trespassing" signs on the property.

SFuller's right.  If they haven't done the CDT segment, north of Silver and Pinos Altos, there will be quite a few hours more for them to get through there.  More in the dark.

It's truly solar driven.  There's no battery buffer for dark time, so only water in daylight.  When it's pumping, it's cold sweet ground water.  I guess, at night, you could still get some out of the trough but it won't be as good.

Hi Nancy. I was on 20 day pace and that 61miles was the hardest day of the tour. It took me all day to get through the Gila to Silver City so if your guys are doing 28 day pace you have plenty of time. Silver to Separ was about 3.5 hours with a tail wind.
