My take on altitude acclamation for the TDR IMO it's only a issue if you insist on using a low elevation "pace" at a higher elevation What I mean is if you slow your pace to match the elevation then acclamation is a small factor I see this all the time where a rider coming to Colorado from lower elevation simply does not adjust their pace to fit the 'oxygen' level They use the word 'acclamation' but really they were just pushing to hard Not to say you don't aclamate but really is a small factor in a long multi day event like the TDR

Coming from living at sea level (and having never ridden a bike above 3000ft before) , I was surprised that I really didn't notice the altitude at all. I guess it just varies person to person.
Also, huge thanks to Marshal and his wife who saved me from a long and depressing ride back from the border.

I'd second that. I did notice it in Banff when I first got there but after that didn't notice it. The only place I felt "flat" was on Indiana Pass and Summitville but that could have been the 2000 miles I already had in the legs and not just the 11 920'.

I would like to thank everyone that has posted in this thread. I've wanted to do the GDMBR since I first heard about it, but I've never really understood why anyone other than those who were thinking they could actually win it would race the Tour Divide. Between this thread and related postings elsewhere (especially Marshal Bird's) I now understand why someone would want to do it.
Thanks to everyone that has posted pictures, especially the picture of the podium in Antelope Wells. After closely following the race for two weeks that picture really sums everything up well. And thanks to the people who tried to photograph everyone that they could as they passed through their locale. I would be great to get someone interested in that somewhere near the end of the trip.

Iowan here. I to never really felt like I had issues with the altitude. I concentrated on steady pace and not really trying to "kill it" per se, for a (barely) sub 25 day finish. I was actually surprised how *low* my HR was most of the time, even though my legs felt like they were at the end of their leash.

So it looks "maybe" like Lael Wilcox is going to do an ITT.
The current record may not last long if that pink dot starts moving again.

I'm touring southbound and just left Glacier Cyclery in Whitefish. Zack from the shop told us to watch out for Lael coming past us. So I can confirm she's attempting an ITT. I'm excited to see her and hope she has a safe ride and stays healthy on this one. Mike G.

She's progressing South, according to Trackleaders.com

Has anyone else besides Lael tried to ride twice in one year ? ( other than Billy Rice's yo-yo's .. which are just amazing )

Lindsay Shepard is about to finish the Sapillo segment. She'll be done in less than 24hrs. I think there's at least one other ITT out there besides Lindsay and Lael.

I'm touring the route, ran into 2 SOBO ITT Canadians shooting for 24 days a few days ago north of Butte. Today was pretty rainy especially on the Sawtell side of the pass, I'm waiting for my steak here at the sawtell resort restaurant.

If I'm looking at things correctly it looks like Lael crossed over Cabin Pass about 20 hours after her start time (0600 on 8/8 I think). That's only about 30 minutes slower than Alex Harris crossed over the pass in June. She's flying and probably smiling too ) Go Lael! Also, a big hurray for Lindsay Shepard who is looking like she will finish today. Bravo Lindsay!

Scott: Are you able to show Lael's 2015 GD ride against her current ride on Track Leaders? Also, can her ITT be put into the Leaderboard?

I think it might be more interesting to show her current ride against Josh's ride - but I don't know how easy that is to do on trackleaders.
