Josh,
did you report this in any way?
As a Flathead county resident i am both disheartened and disgusted at the truckers action.  I hope that you would report it and notify the local newspapers (daily interlake and flathead beacon)     Please let me know if i can assist.
Bill Love

I'm out of contention for the first rider to pie.  Since my encounter with a motorist who wanted to make a grave marker out of a cyclist on the Grave Creek Road after Eureka, MT I've been unable to properly race.  When the truck driver aimed at me I had no choice but to head off the road.  Anyone that has been on that road knows that the right side drops a long ways down into Grave Creek.  Basically, to keep myself and bike from ending up at the bottom of the canyon my legs/feet were twisted in the rocks on the hillside.  There is only so fast a guy can go while eating Alieve and Advil like M&M's (plus I don't professionally recommend it at all).
My left knee took the brunt of the twisting and while I could ocassinally go quickish things kept declining.  By the time I got just past Helena I couldnt go more than 10mph on the flats with a tailwind.
Lots of stuff can happen out there.  Dropping out because of a self-sustained injury like crashing in mud or pushing my body too hard would be painful but acceptable.  Ending my race, while feeling in the best physical condition of my life, because of an act of another person is unacceptable.  This was going to be the last of my racing.  I've never been all about records or first place.  It's always been the journey.
Now...

I'll be back

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate encounter. Thanks for the articles that are so well written and informative. Keep your head up and I look forward to watching you in the next tour divide race.

So sorry you have had to pull out It takes some guts to ride with an injury but even more to scratch . I know you would not have done it lightly . But really glad that you are safe. People like you make the Tour Divide what it is and carry the spirit of the race with you. The person who did this to you is despicable .

Josh;

It's time to grab a beer of your choice and go Fly Fishing.

Best of luck next time.

Sorry to hear that, Josh. I know Plesko was really disappointed to hear about what happened. He was enjoying chasing your shadow. I hope you heal up quickly!

From last year, I remember Team Rice Burner's "dog strategy" was simply to ride super slow until the mutt lost interest. Other than the natural response to try and outrun the dog, or wasting bear spray on it, what can a rider do?

If you can spare the water, almost all dogs react to getting a stream from a water bottle as they had been hit with bear spray.
Weird cuz the same dog will jump in any body of water big enough to get himself wet in.

And finally- Chris Plesko, another rider not of this earth! Crush it Chris!
Indeed.  Wicked fast ride so far, for a one-speeder.  Dude is seriously representing those of us in the married-father-of-two-bikepack-racer crowd.  Go Chris!

I know that is probably the crowd he is most proud to represent. He takes a lot of pride in being able to show people that you can still do this, and do it well, with a demanding job, a wife, and little kids. His training for this wasn't easy on any of us, but we're all SO proud of him!

Amen to that brother! I hope he can keep it up and adjust the current (already impressive) record downward some.

And hats off to the Minister for War and Finance for giving him the time to have a go. Us married-father-of-two-bikepack-racer types would be going nowhere without that Minsterial approval!

Hi! I'm a newbie here following my son on his first endurance ride! This forum is awesome to get a sense of what is happening and so wonderful to witness such a tight community. I am astounded at what I've tracked in these first days. Just getting THROUGH those first few days! wow! Anyway, I found a great photo of him from the first or second wet day, is it okay to share that photo elsewhere? User Hurtin Albertin shot it I think. Thanks!
