It's interesting that sometime coming up my son, Kevin Jacobsen, SOBO and his next door neighbor in Bozeman, MT, Bundy Phillips, NOBO will meet in route. They are currently about 90 miles apart. Quite an accomplishment for both. I hope it happens. Cheers.

Shout out to Jeffery Sharp the Southwest TrailHead Hand. Based in Hatchita he is the goto guy to see when your successful trip to Antelope Wells is at an end. Two years running he picked my sorry body and bike up off the ground, provided chocolate milk, chips, beer - you name it, on the way back for a fresh shower and shave, real food, and got me to the bus to Tucson 30 odd miles away. He even installed a water tap for racers in Hatchita. Call 519-9111 Facebook Jeffery Sharp or email sharpjeffery1@gmail.comIf you don't call he may well be there in Hatchita to spur you on and give you options for a pickup. Plan ahead for when your dehydrated wrecked body and addled brain may need some help... There will likely not be much left in you at the end... Friends and family might be able to pass this on... By the way - if you are a racer and you are reading this.... better get pedaling:-)

Ya, I know it's the TD forum...
Lael Wilcox is in second place in the Trans Am. Over two days faster than the 2014 women's record! Woooof !!!
PS Can we have two TD categories please? One for mortals, another for Mike Hall !

And once the Race is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure whether the Race is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the Race, you won't be the same person who rode in. That's what the Race is all about.

It looks like TS has camped at Elwood Cabin, just over Indianna Pass. That is one of the most picturesque section on the route. I hope he gets to see it in the daylight. Meanwhile, MH is cruising past Hopewell Lake at 2:30am!

News from yesterday: Tom Kendell of Washington, at 69 years young, doing the TDR on a single speed, who made it to Ovando June 18th, threw in the towel here yesterday. The blisters on this feet and the tribulations to come were just to much.
But! "I will be back! With gears."
See you then Tom.

Mike Hall currently has 20 hours on Kato's record coming into Abiquiu. It took Kato 2.5 days to make it from Abiquiu to the finish. I wonder if Hall will be able to finish with daylight remaining on the 13th day. Unfortunately, Hall does not have the luxury(?) of any stiff competition actively motivating him for the win.

I think being denied the record previously due to fire-induced route changes may be motivation enough?

Touche Mike had some great line at the beginning of 'Inspired to Ride' - something along the lines of, 'I like the thrill of the race, it's kinda like being on the run, like being a fugitive, not sticking around in one place for too long, always thinking there is somebody coming after you'. Agreed, he probably has all the motivation he needs.

Once Mike sets the new record, looks like an exciting race to the finish for 2nd through 7th developing.

I have been watching her progress as she made a couple of apparent navigational errors early on. She seems like she got it together after resting in Pie Town if those were navigational errors. If so maybe she is straying again.

Olley Whalley did it 2012.....I believe. Closed when I went by. But couldn't do it I'm sure.
