The 2016 Tour Divide Grand Depart is fast approaching and some early ITTer's are off this week, so I thought it would be a good time to get this thread going for 2016.
Seems like well over 200 riders will start in 2016, and we're all hoping for a repeat of the 2015 conditions.
The sharp end this year has the last 3 years' winners: Josh Kato, Jefe Banham, and Mike Hall, with top veteran racers Seb Dunne, Joe Fox, Luke Bodewes and Doug Wenger returning for another crack too. Liam Crowley is back and looking for a fast time NOBO. Chris Plesko is back and going for the SS record. Watch out for Andrew Kulmatski out there - 3rd place in the Iditarod Invititional in 2015 and beating JayP by 4 hours. Add to that some competitive Rookies like Rob Brown, Guy Martin and David Markman and it is going to be a hot pace up front.
See you fellow racers in Banff on 10th June at the Y around 07:30 and looking forward to meeting some of the trail angels along the way - Crazy Larry / Angler / Rob / Russ / Kirsten.

I'm not racing and don't have the time available to do a full ITT. I'll be on the other list a week after the grand depart.

Lot of snow falling in CO this weekend. I would imagine many of the passes still have snow on them.

Still time to melt in the next 3+ weeks though Justin? Does anyone know how Richmond Peak is looking this year? Last year was fast and dry. When I got back from the race I noticed that it has a Strava segment on the first 1000ft of descent, on the single track between the regrowth. While I am certainly no Cjell $, more his "mid pack amatuer" that hates braking, I did snag a top 10 position. Now I know us bikepackers aren't a bunch of Stravaholes, but how about laying down a "Richmond Peak Downhill" segment challenge for this years racers? I know Brett Stepanik has an awesome video of him getting air off one of the waterbars on the way down. 10 Points for style...... https://www.strava.com/segments/1773728?filter=overallEither way, I am looking forward to Blue Dot watching this year. Good luck everyone!!

For the Grand Départ: yes, 100% absolutely. If you've left a few days ago NOBO, I would wonder if there's snow on Indiana Pass to negotiate. The San Luis Valley is usually pretty dry all the time (actually, photos from people living in Del Norte that I know make it look almost lush! and Spring-like!), so the next bit of snow may not come until Marshall Pass. Then it'll be dry through South Park - except for a tiny bit of snow on the ground up and over the Indian Hills, and maybe Boreas Pass will be interesting. Nothing out of the ordinary, but I don't know if the conditions will be quite as fast as last year - it seemed really special. My crystal ball says: rain.

Now I know us bikepackers aren't a bunch of Stravaholes, but
Here's one of my favorite downhill segments into Salida: https://www.strava.com/segments/12203784Starts at the county line. Tough climb to get there, and the it's mostly bliss, with just one little rise before the huge downhill into town. Gotta get to the bike shop early to get in line for repairs! I stopped the segment at the stop sign at the junction. Please don't blow through it

So I don't see the individual track data point history showing up on the map for James and Pete doing their ITT's now ...

I visited Jackson Hole over the weekend. There was a fair amount of snow above 8,000 feet. It did cause me to wonder what the road to Flagg Ranch looked like right now. During the drive we stopped at my favorite TD sleeping spot, the Wind River Lake picnic area, at the start of the Brooks Lake loop. It was sleeting and there's about a foot of snowpack on the road, but definitely less than I saw in 2009 and there's still two weeks for it to disappear entirely.
We saw a young grizzly next to the highway just below Togwotee Pass, which is right on the route. He was just munching on grass and ignoring the RV-bound tourists swarming around him. Quite docile but looked young enough for mom to still be around.

Fixed, thanks for pointing that out. They have their start times programmed in, as well, now.

I can not imagine both pete and james lost their spots at the same spot. Anyone know why the lack of movement at the moment? I cant remember of anything of interest I would be wanting to hang around in that area for. Mud?

Was wondering about them also ... there's nothing there except for the Horse Springs church. ( I think there is a gas station about 6 miles east in Old Horse Springs )
NM has had some scattered tstorms, but this is still the dry season, if there was mud, I'd expect it to go away in a few hours.
