Mike did mention that this might be his last TD, surprised how little luggage he had.

Isn't it just one of these?

I don't think so, from the pic the hoods look like SRAM hydraulics, I know the guys set the levers up on the Rohloff so one side upshifts & the other downshifts, I'll see them this week so will see what, if anything I can confirm.

Are you in Louth, then? The bike shop said they'd put more details up on their FB thread.

We were down that way a couple of weeks ago for a wedding; if I'd known they had the speed record bike in...

More TD photos from Montana High Country Lodge near Polaris, MT.  The wind blew hard on Saturday afternoon; of course right in the rider's face.  A few riders took a break, showered and ate while waiting for the wind to lay; it did around 8 P.M.

Will the fires in new Mexico effect the race? Any info?

"Don't believe the route runs through any of the active fires.  However, there are several large fires burning across New Mexico, so smokey conditions are widespread.   Currently 97 degrees F in Silver City and 106 in Hachita!"

When the riders came thru Montana freezing and wet......i told them they may be wishing for this weather when they got further south in the 100+ degrees and blowing dust.    Currently here in Ovando it is 44 with an expected high of 75.  Sounds pretty good, eh?  :-)

I can not tell you how happy I was to see Mark Witcher's photo in Polaris.  After the tire blow out and his utter fear of having to drop out of the race over a 29'er......that one photo just showed me why we do what we do here.  Thank YOU!!!  And Ride On Mark!!!!
[p.s.  and thank you to the anonymous rider who last year dropped off that used tire "in case of an emergency".]

When asked he said this would be his last TD.
Unless Josh passed him.  Unfortunately that wasn't to be.
However I still laughed and said "see you in a couple of years" when he rode out.

I missed him as he came by here in the early hours, but there is enough out there now so it is common knowledge and can confirm it is Guy, when I last looked he had reached Hartsel, Salida for lunch?

GM uses a rohbox, which is made by GEBLA. Details at rohbox.com

The Rohloff may be using this for shifting from a variety of shifters:

Ahh! Sigma7 beat me to it!

I was in Steamboat last week at a conference and passed through Kremmling and a few miles of the route via car. Beautiful country.

No one has mentioned it but it looks like the golden spike was driven in Salida this morning.

And  the riders just keep on coming into Ovando, Montana.  Yes they are the back of the pack, the designated White Dots, touring now and not racing, but for some that didn't come due to inability to race, it came about due to equipment or bodily failure.  The hearts are willing, and so they continue.  More determined than ever.

More from Ovando, MT

Standing '0' to what appears is the oldest female rider, Candyce Deddens of Texas at the age of 69, who just left.  I can only hope I am of that spirit at that age.  Incredibly interesting lady.  If you meet her be sure to ask about the 7,000 mile around the US solo bike trip she did after her divorce.  Awesome lady.

Carry on til the next!

Angler, thanks for the pic of Rick May. Rick was my companion on the GD in 2012, together with Ashley Benns, who is today heading for Pinedale. Rick had a malfunctioning GPS, which made him go off-route many times, and a broken pedal. He had to wait 2 days near Swan Lake for new pedals. I am glad that he is still smiling and holding the paper maps firmly in his hands.

Oh, he must be the blur in the photo coming down from Marshall Pass.
