2nd Place Brian Lucido arrived into Ovando at 9:30 pm Fully rested as he has been getting some sleep. "Sleep a little every day and ride hard". He too will be overnighting at the Inn.
Next in Josh, who I can't wait for; but hopefully he too will be here overnight and somehow maybe we can get a photo of him. Will leave a note to have him Say Cheese for the webcam.
Good night everybody!

And riding without your chin straps locked is like riding without a helmet. Not good imo.

Gear down there, Big Rig. Was he riding like that the whole way? Who knows? Get hit by a car at a certain speed and it ain't going to matter anyway. Loving the updates from Ovando, as always, Angler. The remorseful "Oh CRUD..." is up there with the firsthand account of Kato's 20-nugget meal in New Mexico from 2015 as one of my all-time favourite posts in the past few years following the race. Looking forward to hopefully meeting you guys on a much more casually-paced tour in the next 2-3 years.

Our TDR 2017 leader Ben Steurbaut of Belgium has arrived into Ovando around 8 pm. He has NOT slept since the Grand Depart. And despite that he looks amazingly well. Said the detour up north cost him 4 or 5 hours off of his schedule. This is not his usual type of race so it is hard on the knees and the mind. I informed him that despite all that you are rocking it Sir. He plans on staying in Ovando for about 6 hours. He is spending the night "in Jail". Going for a hot shower at the Ovando Inn as they are still open awaiting for guests, having dinner and zonking out til 2 am. With the help of some mosquito repellent as they were eating him alive. If anybody was watching on the web cam [https://video.nest.com/live/TcqLm0pt14] he waved.
Next in line is Brian Lucido who should be here in about an 1.5 hours. I will wait for him.
Last year on FD (I strava stalked him for my own planning), Ben did 20 hours a day for the first 2 days for about 850km, about 350km the following day then took whole day off. Then he hammered some crazy pace for another 4 days to the finish. His just over 8 days for 2100km included a day off. Incredible.

Angler, the webcam is great. I just dot stalked Josh as he rode through town from the other side of the world.

Great pics and posts. Thanks all. Hope to make it to Ovando.
I fly out tomorrow morning and if things go as planned will be departing Banff as early as possible on Wednesday morning. ITT FTW!
I feel like I am sitting in the room right before walking the green mile to the Koko claims reroute. Without a doubt, Wednesday will be the hardest day of my life, mentally, physically and spiritually.

Looks like Josh passed through Ovando with less than 10 mins stop. I missed him on the live Angler cam.

Ben's speed up Huckleberry Pass would seem to indicate that he's walking.

Josh literally stopped for about 90 seconds. Maybe time to fill a water bottle. The light was on in the store, but didn't see anyone walking around.

Nah, Ben is fine. He's making good time up the pass. I'll be quiet now

What is everyone's guesses on if the re-route up Koko(?) Claims road to Fernie will become the defacto race route in the future. I believe that the bridges on the original route are in the process of being replaced, so next year could be back to the original route. Thoughts?
I'm touring in two weeks, plan on riding normal route to Sparwood to inspect the Elkford to Sparwood section that confuses people each year. Then I'll take pavement to Fernie and rejoin this years route. No need to inspect Koko if this is a 1-2yr diversion.

I think that the consensus is that Koko is "EPIC" and not necessarily in a good way. The MTBCast calls have described it as indescribably brutal.
I really can't wait to get there to get through it. Mainly because I know that it will likely make me face my limit.

I'm pretty sure the TD is going to go into Fernie every year now.
Thanks for the video stream Kathy, neato!

Does anyone know of an app or software program that will give the cumulative elevation gain as they move through the route?

This will be close, but will not have the new section from Elkford to Fernie to where it goes back into the original route. The rest of it should be accurate. Move the "B" dot from New Mexico to the location of your rider and the cumulative should be in the Profile/Stats section. https://td-2015.eatsleepridegreatdivide.com/
