I'm pretty sure the TD is going to go into Fernie every year now.
Thanks for the video stream Kathy, neato!
I looked at the addenda for the Adventure Cycling maps over the weekend to see if they made mention of the bridge, and the one bridge on-route in the Flathead is a PERMANENT removal, not to be rebuilt. I believe ACA is leaving their official route alone and just noting the change. Here's the exact text: (Sep 2016) The bridges at mile 60.1(96.7) and 61.1(98.3) will be replaced during the summer of 2017. (Sep 2016) At mile 70.5(113.4), the Pollock bridge over the Flahead River will not be replaced. The river is easily fordable except during run-off which occurs during May to mid-June (in a typical year).Because the TD runs in early June (during snow-melt), I'm guessing 2016 is the last year for Flathead Pass, and the route will indeed use the Fernie-to-Harvey-Pass-to-Cabin-Pass route. I suppose whether or not Koko Claims remains is TBD. I bet businesses in Elkford and Sparwood would like it left out. But the comments on MTBCast are unanimous in the brutality of that section.

Somebody please remind the Commander in Chief , before he rolls through town, to refrain from talking about his dating habits.
Maybe I should turn off the audio to be safe.

I wonder what happened to Belgian Stefan Maertens at the end of Day 1. Whatever it was really slowed him down. It appears he took a long rest in Round Prairie and somehow managed to claw his way back into the top 10! What a massive effort by him!

Does anyone know of an app or software program that will give the cumulative elevation gain as they move through the route?
This will be close, but will not have the new section from Elkford to Fernie to where it goes back into the original route. The rest of it should be accurate. Move the "B" dot from New Mexico to the location of your rider and the cumulative should be in the Profile/Stats section. https://td-2015.eatsleepridegreatdivide.com/Thank you! I thought that was out there somewhere!

For Stefan this is his third run. He was in 6th place last year, but was the first Belgium. Stefan used to be an overweight truck driver who raced motorcycles on his spare time. He caught the bicycle bug, now look at him go.

Place makers #4 and #5 into Ovando at 10:45 am. Rob Davidson of New Zealand, age 50 and Bradley Ryan of CA age 28 Met up at the Y in Banff and found they have similar riding abilities so have been keeping pace with each other. This is Robs 3rd TDR so he knows the ins and outs and says Brad is his Sherpa and carries him and his bike over the tough parts. Not TRUE Bradley says. But they both agree that the detour this year is going to be epic story telling. As one of them said it is the equalizer: it is miserable for all and slows down the speeders. They're in the Stray Bullet for a quick meal and then lightening fast back on the trail.

I heard he broke his derailleur and had to walk/ride single gear to a shop and then wait on a part? I think he spent many hours there and has been catching up ever since. I read that someplace

Rob Davidson and Brad Ryan have left Ovando and at noon Greg Gleason, 50 years young of SD has arrived as rider #6 in this long conga line of racers. The over 40 year olds are tearing it up this year! Greg is suffering from a bit of chest breathing issues. Have seen this so many times. Mostly from the cold, the wet and the exertion but if rest is the only remedy, Greg says he'll just sweat it out. Other than that he is rather enjoying his journey.
Carry on. More to come.

It was reported via the Facebook group. Peanut butter mud ate his rear mech.

The radar in SW Montana is starting to look a bit ominous as the rain is starting to build up. It appears to be falling steadily around Fleecer, Polaris, and on the Bannack Road, and is starting up in Butte. The system looks to be drifting NE toward Helena, Lincoln, and Ovando, where it's mostly sunny right now, but for how long...?
Last weekend, flash flood watches were issued for the area for Monday night into Tuesday...the call is for heavy rain...1-2". It looks like it's going to get a bit hairy for a LOT of riders, including the leaders.
EDIT: I just realized that 1-2" of rain translates to more than a foot of snow...yeow!!! Let's hope temps stay warm enough at height so that doesn't happen.

Posting position #7: Ty Hopkins 46 out of Utah arrived at 1:30 pm. Followed 15 minutes later by the #8 Rider Tomas Hainish, 44 from OR. Both are in for nourishment and hustling out before the storms hit. Trying to move folks along as the next 36 hours could be brutal. Speaking of brutal the detour is still a hot topic in regards to bodily punishment.
To Adam Lisonbee: Ty got your message on the Board. I think he needed that laugh!
