Mechanical or not, it now appears he's off course.  Making a turn to the east when reaching Hwy 43, instead of heading west towards Wise River.

Be interesting to hear if he tried to ride down the steep part of fleecer.  I remember thinking it can't be that bad, right up until I looked down it and decided to walk.

The youngster on the tour has arrived to Ovando.  Peter Kraft out of Florida, all of 24 years of age.  Youngest so far!  Having lunch and then out of here.  At least the rain has stopped.

Go, PK Jr!  I rode quite a bit leapfrogging the Peters Kraft (Jr and Sr) in 2013.  I'm pretty sure they were the first father/son team to finish the TD.  Their struggle to finish New Mexico was epic, and documented in that year's Cordillera.

Peter Jr, though you are only in Montana now, may the land of enchantment leave you enchanted this year!

I finished the 2013 TD.  I did the whole damn thing,
excluding the 2013 detours, in good style and—as
far as I know—totally in accordance with the rules.

Dayum! I hope Ben is faring OK - that fork failure looks like he may have took quite a tumble.

I think I saw a video of someone clearing Fleecer. I was a bit more than impressed.

I hope he is OK, that looks painful!  Maybe he can get fixed up and head out with Stefan Maertens who is coming in to Butte soon.

Holy cow...am I mistaken or did JayP get to Ovando in roughly 2.5 days?!?  How far is his time from Mike Hall's to Ovando last year?

Final Update for Jun 13:

The weather kept a lot of people in Seeley.  25 mph wind gusts.  Cloudy.  Temps in the upper 40's.  Occasional showers.  Ab-so-lute-ly awful!

The last 4 into Ovando before I left for the night were:

1.  Timothy Nipper, 40, from Texas arrived around 5 pm.  Exhausted and cold he is taking a room for the night with the plan to leave around 2 amish.

2.  The legend that is Jay Petervary.  44 years from Idaho, arrived at 7:30 pm.  Started the ITT from Banff on Sunday around 6 am.  Made it to Ovando at mile 550 61 hours later.  As you can see he was putting on some speed thru the muddy back roads.  His only thought when we met at the highway was when the god-awful weather was going to improve.  Jay and everybody:  hopefully tomorrow.  He too went to the Inn in hopes to 'freshen up a bit", get some rest and hit the road in the wee hours of the morning.

stand by for the next 2!

So that was a Lauf fork that Ben S broke on Fleecer! I wonder if he had the Carbonara (heavier duty) or the Grit (more for gravel-grinding).
Watching the mechanical reports, I see a lot of derailleurs and a few brakes. Good argument for the Rohloff hub!

Approximately 5 and 7 minutes after Jay arrived to highway 200, Along came:

Mark Burton, 40, from England.  He too is looking for a room for the night along with, 2 minutes later,

Mathew Bohn, 51 of Colorado.

Didn't talk long to these gents as I was fraking cold in that wind.  Don't know how they did it.

And that is it for today, June 13th.  There are a few more coming in currently.  Hopefully I'll see them in the morning.
Good night and
Carry on!

Ouch! Hope he is ok. That has to be soul destroying after powering along so strongly. I wonder if other Lauf users are nervous now? Isn't Josh rocking a Lauf?
Note to next years racers - stay away from Ti forks (ask Seb Dunn 2015) and now perhaps Lauf. While I am sure some have failed, a quick Google search doesn't show any Niner RDO fork failures. Stick with what works. Wink Just my opinion of course.

Can anyone confirm that Ben can catch a ride back to that turn just outside Wise River, then pedal on from there? He did go sideways off route-initially.

*Edit for grammar.

From my memory and notes:

Jay made it to Ovando in 61 hours.  6 am Jun 11 to 7:00 pm June 13
Mike Hall made it from 8 am that Friday to noon on Sunday so about 52 hours.

Approximately to my best guess.  BUT Mike didn't KOKO and didn't have the last 24 hours of weather.

Rain stopped, snow melted and Brian Lucido was the first TD rider to make it to the High Country Lodge.  Dinner, a shower and a few winks before Brian takes off early in the A.M.

That's the second set of Lauf forks that I've seen fail at that point (crown race) - the other was on a fat bike last Christmas but not sure what model.

Wondering if anybody can tell us what kind of glasses that Greg Gleason (go Greg) is wearing.  That frameless, tinted setup looks good.  Thanks again!

Pretty sure he's sporting a pair of Oakley EVZero Path frames... I could be wrong, but it's my job not to be!  icon_biggrin  Lenses, can't tack down purely off one 2D pic due to lighting.
