Josh's call-in was a bit broken, but he was warning riders entering the Gila that camping along FS150 (north star road) may not be a good idea due to fire suppression happening along the road. Pulled this picture from NMFireinfo.com

Josh sounded very tired when compared with his other calls...not that it surprises me too much, considering how he's been pushing. A great ride by him, and a great ride by Brian, who stayed just ahead of Josh throughout.
Another great year of riding, and lots more excitement still to go in this affair.

Tracker back up. Whew. Well almost. Brian refreshed. Everybody else still taking a break currently.
Sorry about that guys, it was a SPOT-wide delay in all feeds, even on our rental trackers which are on the commercial 'push' service which is supposed to be more immune to these things (it does mean quicker point updates). Points were delayed about 2 hrs, luckily not while Brian was finishing. Congrats to him on a very fast run with a difficult start. Carry on!

Pay attention young fella, she bailed at Savery/Brush Mtn with [outside support?] mechanical and health issues but decided to head south and do some sightseeing.
Off topic .... why have you got one aero bar orange and one black? Were you not sure on which side of the single track you should ride on?
Ahh, ok. I am on holidays so it has been hard to follow at times, especially with info scattered all over the web. The bar tape? A bloke's gotta have some secrets...... Congrats to Brian on a solid ride. Not that far behind the record with an arguably tougher route this year. Well done and now you can sleep!

Probably explains why I've been missing deadline at work the last couple of weeks, but appears then that counting solo riders only (either direction) from the Grand Depart, Josh is about to become the sixth ever with multiple podium finishes in the 10 years of the Tour Divide as we know it today.
The others (assuming I haven't been suckered in by any ITT's that weren't listed as such online) would appear to be Matthew Lee (2008, 2009, 2010); Chris Plesko (2009, 2016); Jefe Branham (2011, 2014); Kurt Refsnider (2009, 2011); Mike Hall (2013, 2016).
Brian, as Neil pointed out on his site, is the first rookie to win since 2012, and only sixth rider ever to break the 15-day mark. Pretty incredible accomplishments for both, especially with the explosion in popularity of the event over the past several years.

"Pretty incredible accomplishments for both, especially with the explosion in popularity of the event over the past several years."
True statement. Thanks for figuring that out... when it doesn't look as dramatic watching the dots approach the finish line (ie compared to the last two TDs), it's hard to remember how impressive these two gents are. Killer rides by both of them. Kudos to Josh for finishing strong in the heat of the day! 105 degrees as he's pulling up the border, ugh.
My other fav event of the day -- Lynne S.'s call-in about a hilarious standoff with a skunk. Go Lynne! Incredible athlete in her own right (former world champion powerlifter!), making her 2nd attempt on a completed TD. Keep riding strong!

Congrats to Brian, Josh, Ben and indeed the rest of the TD riders wherever they may be. Superb rides all 'round; you all have my deepest respect.

looks like BS is riding into some unpleasant weather. I am sure he would be pleased of the cooler weather and the rain might pack that sand south of Silver.

I noticed that Bernhard Oser is the first rider not to use the alternate re-route for the fires. Do riders still have to follow the re-route or is it no longer required for subsequent riders?
Anyone know the answer to this? Is it now an optional reroute or did he just not get the message?
