The Australian. He caught a ride with the port cleaning crew back to the house here and on the way they stopped and killed a western diamondback, with a slingshot, for dinner.

This is Toni and he is sixteen and half years old. He rode the Divide in 29 days with a bicycle made in 1990. (alone) The bottom bracket had to be repaired, the derailluer broke off at one point. Turned it into a single speed until he found a junk bike with a derailluer that partially worked with rubber bands. One of the brake pads is wrapped with duct tape for friction. The chain is a combo of two old ones. Toni never slept in any hotels and made the ride spending less than a thousand dollars. (not including bus, airfare home). Over eight pounds of cheese and 26 loaves of bread. Walked for over two days. Cheers to young Toni!
P.s. Thank-you Ralph. P.s.s. Thank-you Jay P. for the donation of finishing clothes.

7,646 miles down; 550 to go!!! Ashley Benns, of the UK, is on the THIRD lap of the Divide Trail for the first ever Tri-Yo, and is approaching Ovando Montana via Lincoln on the highway 200 detour [due to the fires closing Huckleberry pass.] He should be here within a couple of hours. If anybody has a message to pass along, bring it on. I'll be sure he gets it. And be sure to watch for him on our webcam at https://video.nest.com/live/TcqLm0pt14! THIS IS EPIC!

And so the first ever Tri-Yo of the Tour Divide is about complete with over 7,600 miles completed ad 550 more to go; altho actual mileage may vary due to numerous fire detours in this part of Montana. Ashley Benns of the UK has left Ovando and is enroute back to Banff. We went over some maps as he is definitely not wanting to take the highways all the way to Holland Lake. He hated the portion from Lincoln to Ovando along highway 200. So we have him taking Woodworth Road to the south end of Seeley then stopping by one of the numerous fire information posts to see about dirt roads paralleling Seeley Lake to the west. They are chip sealing portions of highway 83 north of Seeley and that is yet another hazard he wishes to avoid. I warned him that Seeley Lake residents are being told to evacuate NOT because of flames but above hazardous air quality due to the smoke.
As for his future plans......he is going to get to Banff and then re-evaluate his plans, possibly going for a Quad-Yo! I checked him for mental instability and found him to be quite sane. He said that in his life he really has nothing of a legacy to his name, but this would give him some credibility in his life that would be hard to beat. For a bit. He said after all he could complete it and it would still be September and decent weather. He looked great! He was smiling the entire time. And those that left messages for him: I wrote them down and handed him two pages of well wishes!
Here's hoping to see Ashley again in another couple of weeks!

We recently rode 100 miles ( https://nmbiking.blogspot.com/2017/08/mini-tour-divide-2017.html) of the tour dive in NM and my 13 year old son found a Salsa Tour Divide 2017 stem cap south of Vallecitos, NM. Finding it was one of the highlights of the trip. I told my son that I would post on the forum and see if any one wanted to claim it? Other wise he has plans on mounting it on his bike.

I believe they were handed out at the start to all the racers and they could turn it in at PieTown for a piece of pie on Salsa.

Ashley Benns, 54 of the UK, arrived into Ovando for the 4th time this season, continuing on his bid for the first ever 4-Yo, or Quad Yo, or Yo Yo Yo YO!

Do not forget about that "stiff upper lip". Its a British thing. I encourage everyone near the trail to go say hello, cheer him on, congratulate him, and get some pics for us. Ask him about some of his other rides. You will be glad you did. If anyone is near Antelope Wells when he is finishing, you are welcome here at the bike ranch for our tail-gate party. 575-519-9111
