Scott will post the 2018 updated files there much closer to the race date.

Its a good bet that the 2017 maps will be very similar to 2018. The story is that bridge outages on the upper Flathead road wont be corrected until 2019, so Koko Calamity will still be in the mix and it appears that the other major diversion around Rawlins will still be with us as well.

Matthew says there will be an additional reroute due to wildlife (bear) closure of the Spray Reservoir road. Apparently part of the High Country Trail will be used.

A little PSA... The High Rockies Trail re-route will add a significant amount of time to Boulton Creek. Especially with a fully laden bikepacking rig. Plan accordingly!

Particularly as Matthew has hinted on using parts of the HRT all the way to Boulton Creek and perhaps beyond. What is the HRT like? I assume a single-track hiking trail, in which case 150+ bikes in a row could be interesting!

By the time folks reach HRT, there won't be much of a peloton. Trail is wide enough - not tight single track. It's just relentless, short, steep, rough up and down. Day 1 on the GDMBR is gonna be a real gut check for all those who dare...

If it's rerouted as shown in the ACA addenda, it shouldn't be too bad. It's a well-built trail that spits out to the same place on the dirt road highway. It's a little shorter, and it will take a little more time. I'll take a little extra singletrack. If we stay on the HRT all the way to Bolton, then I think we're looking at a much longer haul. Unfortunately, everything is rumor until we get very close to the GD.

A lot of Salsa's on the list, way more than other brands
Look at all those Cutthroat's! How do people feel about visitation along the route these days? I know it can be considered support (albeit, not 'direct' support) and it can be an unfair advantage on those people who do not live along the route.

Interesting question, in that it brings in the subject of what sort of control is exercised in an "underground" race. Visitation is not allowed according to the official rules http://tourdivide.org/the_rules : "Visitation: Divide racing is not intended to be a spectator sport! However, route-town locals only may interact with (i.e. visit briefly, cheer on) thru-racers as they pass through their locale. Out-of-town visitation to the GDMBR mid-race from challengers' family or friends—even if only a 'loosely-planned', remote possibility for rider rendezvous—is prohibited"

Shouldn't she have been relegated, according to the rules?

That rule came after that race. My point is more this: The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route is a construct of the ACA and uses public roads and trails. ANYONE can use the GDMBR to tour, fast tour, or race. If one chooses to do their own time trial or to race with friends, they can make whatever rules they want. However, if one is racing in the Tour Divide, the Tour Divide rules should be followed, regardless of how anyone feels about them.

Thank you for copying that in, I couldn't find it in my initial scan of the rules - I wasn't even sure if tourdivide.org is actually up to date. A rule is a rule you're right...and I didn't mean to challenge one, but I know this one has been hotly debated over the years.

Who is making the money profits from the Cordillera? If it is not 100% charity, it seems odd to allow soliciting on a sign up list.

All profits go to the college fund of Linnea Blumenthal, daughter of Dave Blumenthal, who died in a collision with a pickup truck in Colorado during the 2010 TD.
