My first post here, and the first year that I'm following the race as a dotwatcher -- I'm thinking of a go at this in 2021, right before I turn 50.

I have to say, this is one of the most exciting sporting events I've watched! Haven't been this much in suspense since Lemond vs Fignon in '89!! Josh Kato mentioned in the podcast interview that he was inspired by Lemond when he was young... and we also have a great Parisien racing in the form of Sofiane! He now has a 50 mile lead... but it's still early days, and there's a very strong chasing pack who have got much better rest so far. This is brilliant!

The guy with the "Bike Mad 4 Madagascar" frame bag is Steven Moatt, he's raising money for the poor in Madagascar. Unfortunately (quote) "had a disaster and not even left Banff. I have lost an envelope with over one thousand US dollars in it which was going to take me through to the Mexican border."

Glad he got underway and he's having a strong race. Sent him $50 on paypal as my 'dotwatching subscription'. There was a post on Facebook, but seems a lot of people chipped in, which is really nice.

Josh Kato was the second TD rider to make it to High Country Lodge near Polaris.  A quick breakfast, WIFI, lunch to go and he was headed off to Lima.

In an interesting anecdote. Late last Summer as my son and I were enjoying a couple of cold beverages, we reflected on riding from Banff to Helena last July. The topic came up on the difficulty in climbing the 2 steep grades prior to Elk Pass. My son asked, "Do you think that Josh rides up it?" I had no idea as we pushed up it. So, I messaged Josh and asked him if he rode it and how. He got back to a couple of days later and responded, "I ride with a triple".

So, when I see pics like this, I have to say... "I'll be darned. He does ride a triple."

All, thanks for the pictures!!!

Scott M, is there a way of turning the "radar" layer on?

Thanks

It's a real shame too the Trackleaders no longer has GoogleMap or GoogleSatalite views. It was miles better when it did.  I know the reason is that Scott said it cost too much to pay the Google licence.  I wonder what we'd have to pay to restore it

Yes, you're right. This is a real shame. You can bypass this lack by clicking on a riders name in the map and than click on "Google map location" Is not the same but better than nothing.

I think Josh was feeling pretty good for pedaling 817 miles in 4 days.  We visited about steelhead and hooking up for a pyramid lake trip next winter.

It has been a long and busy day trying to run a fly fishing shop and catch as many riders as I can.

Today's racers dated June 18 2019 in alphabetical order from 7:45 am to 4:45 pm:
1. Bill Littmann, Michigan an annual returnee whose company I enjoy immensely. He may be off track here or there, but just for a few moments so he can check out something utterly fantastic.
2. Greg Litus of Colorado who had the bad luck of leaving his credit card at the BCC market, but had the great fortune of having Hannah riding in after him and chasing him down with the card.
3. Jeff Sapp, Oklahoma resident #1. Having a bit of tire air problems but is enjoying it out there.
4. Troy Cowen, Oklahoma resident #2.
5. Austin Turner, Oklahoma resident #3.
Is there anybody left riding in OK? According to Austin, with all the rains and flooding....where else would you rather be? And no they are not riding together.

Couple of waiting and wondering about the future today. After much contemplation Jeff Oakley called it quits today due to an achilles problem. As I type he is on his way to Missoula and has already booked a flight home to Colorado.

Clinton Channell of KY is taking a medical day now making camp downtown with a lower extremity problem. Betting after a hot shower, rest and good food he'll be on the trail again tomorrow.

As you can see.....stopping or stalling the dream is heartbreaking.

Stephen Halligan stopped in at the High Country Lodge near Polaris for breakfast this morning.  Nate G., Lael W. and Josh I. flew by with a nice stiff tail wind pushing them toward Lima around noon.  Kai Edel, Chris Seistrup and Evan Deutsch stopped this afternoon for a short rest and resupply before heading for Lima.  Bannack Bench road is nice and dry for those who are wondering.

Agreed most definitely.  It is actually hard to ascertain exactly where they are.
But sometimes I think that is the point.
