Randy Neill's latest spot location is either an anomaly or he's jumped onto a truck and managed to ride 800 miles or so in thirteen hours. As a fellow sexagenarian I'd love to be able to ride that fast icon_biggrin

What is that picture on Dotwatcher Day 6?  I hope it's not a volunteer crew clearing portions of the route for the racers!
If it is public land and it benefits all of the racers then I don't think that it is a problem. IMHO it would be no different that have a state highway department clearing avalanche debris.

Too many people going out on the route and doing things to "benefit all the racers" will spoil the spirit of the race.  I doubt any state highway department will go out specifically to help TD racers.

This year I provided a free ice cream of your choosing.  Here is the Peloton sharing the experience of their first three hours.
Graham did not stop for ice cream.  He tells me he needed to get back home in 18 days.

This was my thought as well.  If a state road crew is clearing roads because that's what they do...cool...fine by me.  But if there are folks doing these types of things specifically as an assist to the TD riders...I'd rather they not.  It's not as though the riders are directing it, but that kind of help - at the very least - bends the spirit of the race.

The photo in question - along with what we've seen on the Brazos and will likely see in CO - is one more grain of sand in the ever-growing pile that proves Koko Claims is unnecessary hike-a-bike on a race filled with places to walk...last I'm going to say about it...this year. Cheesy

Where did Randy Neill come from? He's sleeping over the road from Sofiane now but a day ago was up in Bigfork MT.

Randy Neill is out of the race with Mono.  So he picked up a you-haul-it truck and is carrying it bike back to Colorado via the trail to to roote the riders on.

Will have more on yesterday as soon as I can catch my breath.  :-)

This is where I'd seen that photo last week https://judice.com/
you can read more on Day 42 of this person's GDMBR ride blog but they wrote "As I got closer I realized there were a couple of adults supervising and in fact these kids were from a Boy Scout troop camped nearby who decided to shovel out the road. How incredible is that."

Whether or not they were doing it with any awareness of the Tour Divide ... ?

In that case, it's probably fine, but it's an odd (and VERY strenuous) project.
