Very possible, although more likely it is just not findable.  The descent off that divide is supposed to be extremely rough and rocky and in the dark, with snow falling, it might look like the rest of the woods around it.

Sofiane knows that Josh isn't too far back, though he may not know exactly how far back.  He may have decided that it's better to have a buddy with him if conditions are poor...just for safety.  So, find Josh, work with him over this section, which is very steep and difficult even in good conditions, then start the race again.

If that's the case, very smart, very prudent, very mature of Sofiane.

Well, I was at least partially wrong.  Unless Josh has moved down and his SPOT hasn't updated, Sofiane has passed him and could be heading back to Brush...

There's another road that branches off right there at Brush Mtn Lodge.  It goes south, then east over to Steamboat.  Maybe he's headed there...guess we'll follow the dots and see...

A very tough slog right now!!

Josh's Spot has been very slow to update at times so far.  I keep refreshing in hopes of seeing where he actually is.

Exactly...he might be with Sofiane at this point...I highly doubt he's sleeping at 6:30am... Smiley

PS - A big thanks to ScottM for adding the single-speed records to the map...fantastic!!!

A big thanks to Scott Morris for doing what he does every year for us.
EVERYONE, don’t forget where the “Donate” button is so that he can continue taking care of all of us on this end of the race.

Chris Seistrup has just left Brush Mtn Lodge, even though the weather doesn't show signs of improvement towards Steamboat Lake today.

And radar shows a little snow falling in the area of Boreas Pass.  For the first time in years, New Mexico is going to look good to the racers!! Cheesy

From a blistering pace into mid summer snow in the higher elevations. Wow... What a year.

AMAZING!  And possibly a very good race strategy (we'll see!). He's rested and it's fully light out, plus he's been over that stretch multiple times so might have an easier time with route-finding.  I hope Sofi can recover and continue onward.

Another move forward for Josh.  Yeah, hopefully Sofiane is alright...if I were up there, I'd be wishing for some hot chocolate right about now...

Sofiane's dots show him going forward as far as 1529.2 miles on the route.  Josh has a mile and a half to go to reach that point.  If they're in a snowfield, I'm sure Josh can see that Sofiane has turned around, so...

sofi and Chris met up, and Chris kept moving forward, so doesn't seem like the pass is blocked.

This RACE tho! Hot. I like Seistrup. 38. Is he a "rookie" at TD? Getting stronger and faster as the race wears on. Simplicity always wins, those without plans who don't need motels. Matt Lee's original "one-motel-night challenge" still stands. TD is a spiritual journey and the happiest rider will prevail. Remember that video of Kato 3 or 4 years back joyously "WHOOOHOOOing!!!" on that final stretch to the border for his win?? TD Forever!!!

Christopher was little known prior to the race and is now a rock star due to an impromptu dance off in front of the Blackfoot Angler's webcam in Ovando.  [you can see it on their / mine / Kathy Schoendoerfer's FB page unless there is a way to post it here].

But as much fun as he appears to be, there is a seriousness in this ride.  Check out:

"This summer I am racing in honor of Barry by raising money to support Save One Life. Like Barry’s first cross country ride, my goal is to become the first person with hemophilia to ride the divide over 2700 miles, from Banff, AB to Antelope Wells, N

Now I'm super impressed with this guy.

Chris may not have been well known as far as the TD goes, as it's his rookie year.  However, Chris is well-known in many areas and circles, and is one of the most compassionate humans you'll ever meet.  He was set to race the TD in 2018, but a crash during his training phase that would have caused most of us to have a bruise and be sore for a few days left Chris with an internal bleed and out of the race.  Because Chris is Chris, he turned a bad situation into a positive one.  He stalked those 2018 dots like nobody's business.  He has trained with a fiery passion and has studied the route for an additional year.  He's riding the dream of his life, he's focused, he's smart, and he's showing thousands of others with Hemophilia that the disease does not have to define who you are.  Go, Chris, go!!!
