I'm dying to fully understand the conditions, and thought processes keeping that many strong riders, nay, adventurers, holding up.

The front four are definitely in interesting territory as well.

Feels like Chris S. is a snowball rolling downhill.

Couple singlespeeders getting close to Brush Mountain. Are they slogging through mud yet?

There seems to be a mud field north of Savery, but once they slog through that, most of the riders seemed to get up to Brush Mtn Lodge without much difficulty.  Apparently the real trouble begins right after the Lodge.

Easy Cruising after Como for Chris Seistrup! Thanks Scott Morris for this awesome weather overlay! I believe Chris will make up ground on Mike Hall's dot in the coming days. The conditions are gorgeous and there is still 1/3 or 5ish days of racing for Chris and his chasers. New Mexico is a long haul. Hoping Josh Kato is ok and will finish this race! And that Kristen has enough eggs and bacon for this sudden mass tourism. - Tour Divide Forever!!!

Sad to hear that Sofiane has scratched -- but delighted to hear he'll be back. He knows (and so does everyone else) that the late, great Mike Hall's dot is not impassable, even with the added hours of the Koko Claims reroute. In terms of aggressive endurance racing he really set a new precedent.

Chris Seistrup has been riding a super smart race and now has quite a healthy lead, But it ain't over yet! Hoping JK, SH and NG can stay up there and keep this excitement going to the end. As for the "trapped" riders, cannot begin to imagine the stir crazy atmosphere in Brush Mountain... being stuck that long will make it a real challenge to get moving again, regardless of the conditions.

It’s 0300 and it looks like Josh is rolling out of Silverthorne.  That guy is made of stern stuff.  Hope his shoulder lets him finish this thing

Yes. He’ll likely be in 2nd place and closing in on Chris by the time they wake up.

And the Brush Mtn crew are off as well at 0400 local time.  Interestingly, it looks as though the front runners that have already tried, ie Lael, Josh, Evan and Kai, are not at this time attempting to move.  I read somewhere that 8 people were scratching, but can’t for the life of me find who those 8 are.  Also seems Steve Halligan also had his alarm set and is either riding with Josh, or at the very least - knowing that stretch of trail into Breck, they will be able to see each other’s lights.

The group from Brush Mountain Lodge has already covered a fair bit of ground. They seem to be moving at riding speed.

I guess those front runners might be in it to win it, not just finish, so perhaps they don’t see the point in going on? Most of them have a TD finish or two already under their belts.
I bet conditions are still very bleak and while the riders who have braved the trail look a little spread out on the tracker, their Spot times are also staggered slightly which makes me think they are all together for safety and moral support - at least until they hit Clark. Either way, it is good to see movement. Kirsten would be starting to get over run!!  wave

Meanwhile the Breck group must surely be in sight of each other.  Nate seems to have joined in the fun.  I remember that climb being easily rideable, but I wonder what the surface is like today

Each and every rider has their own story and objectives in this race and each one has to make his or her own tough decisions. So it is not for us to judge I suppose. I would think, though, that if you are into it for the win then this is the chance to demonstrate grit, perseverence and, at the least, an opportunity to use the race to prepare for these conditions in future races. I would also think (but I have no experience myself so am the last qualified to say this) that the mind plays a lot of tricks convincing yourself that you cannot win anymore once behind. But those thoughts exactly will rob the energy from you. I am sure the four in front now have pushed on despite being behind at times and faced with seemingly unsurmountable conditions. But experience and preparation also clearly shows. Looking at Josh Kato's Instagram, he has been riding in mountain winter conditions all winter.

Anyone know what bike Nate Ginzton is riding?  I noticed that at least 3 of the lead 4 bikes are Ti.  Being a big Ti fan myself (Ti Fargo) it is interesting to see such a strong showing after the recent dominance of Cutthroats.

There are a few pics of Nate in Ovando back on page 5. Looks like a full-sus Pivot.
