Anyone know what bike Nate Ginzton is riding? I noticed that at least 3 of the lead 4 bikes are Ti. Being a big Ti fan myself (Ti Fargo) it is interesting to see such a strong showing after the recent dominance of Cutthroats.
Dominating in finishing, podiumming or starting ? I'm a ti fan too ! |

There's a local race that I have 2 starts in. First time DNF second time DFL. DFL is definitely better for the ego. |

My first ride failure on the TD route sent me home pretty ashamed... I was surprised that people at work were excited when I got back to hear how it was out there. I told them that I was embarrassed. There response was that I attempted something that no one else in the building had ever tried before.

As long as racers follow the race rules they don't owe anyone an explanation or justification for deciding to stop regardless of the reason.
That is so correct vikb. Look at Josh - he just loves the hell out of this race. Evertything about it. He is a gifted, inspiring and generally all round great guy. He loves to inspire others to give it a go, no matter the race or route. Now this is a bit of a long bow to draw on my account buuuttt.... (and I hope that his current medical situation isn’t too serious and he has a speedy recovery) what if he feels an obligation, no matter how subconcious, to press on, not stop, leave it all out there because of some implied pressure from us sitting here on social media? I would hate to think that someone would push on when they really shouldn’t, just because they know they are being watched/talked about/not meeting someone else’s expectations. The Divide is a wild beast that attracts all sorts of different people with different goals and aspirations. It has one common element though, be you the lead rider or the lantern rouge - it is a battle of mental toughness. There was a comment on the TD prep threads -from around 2013/4 I think - that this race is 90% mental. The other 10%? Yeah, that’s mental too....  Hope you’re ok Josh. That was a rocking effort.  Let’s see what NM throws at the racers. Chris is currently enjoying the huge downhill roll off La Manga pass and will very shortly turn left onto the dirt again and cross the border grid. How will the Brazos mud be?! |

Hi bikepack family. Was just reading through this as it seems I have time sitting in a hospital room with a direct view of the Old Woman Trail that comes into Del Norte. Thanks for the well wishes. Unfortunately I will not be able to continue forward. My problem would likely not be survivable before the end. I will be seeking treatment and hopefully return to this race I love so much. I seriously thought about getting back on my bike after finding the source of my problem as dying on the Divide would be preferable to anywhere else at this moment. That would be unfair to the Divide. It would also be unfair to all of you and my family. So thank you all. Keep the TD the TD. The best race on earth and the most honorable of sporting pursuits. Love you all.

I have seen a mountain lion during a dusk crossing of sand mtn as well. Divide racers are too skinny to eat according to department of wildlife:)

Josh, wishing you the best in your recovery. Thank you for all that you gave to the TD this year and for all that you contribute to this community through your example. It seems poetic that you would now rest with a view of the trail... offering a small glimpse of the riders that aspire to follow in your footsteps (errr… tire tracks) on the TD. |
