the latest picture on her page is from before the start, but clicking on her bio pic leads to a comment about a hostage situation north of Silverthorne has shut down Hwy 9

The rules debate is getting out of hand.

Looks like Manu missed a turn. I assume they have not been following their gps tracks for many miles so how will he even know before he gets to Silver City, if then?
Anything that's a red line on the tracker is part of the published track that all racers should have. So he's following the original line now, into Silver.

Not much of a Facebook or Instagram guy myself (still in my 30s but an old soul I guess), and just wanted to mention I've appreciated those who continue to post updates here, as well as those who have phoned into MTB Cast. Still my preferred ways, along with some good ol' fashioned Trackleaders creeping, to keep tabs on the race each year. Doubt I'll ever race it but I still hope to at least tour it sometime in the next 5-10 years. Props to any and all who even made it as far as the start line this year. Massive commitment, even for the ones getting swept up by the 'broom wagon.' And hoping of course our top Canadian Theo Kelsey will be able to continue on past Del Norte.

It looks like Sofiane should have a 7mph tail wind to the finish. An unbelieveable effort but there he is. Well done!

Someone on FB alerted me to Andrew Kulmatiski's ITT! he's going FAST. This should be a good ride to watch! He started at 5 am on the 22nd (as you can see from his info) - he's already in Helena?!

Massive Congrats to Sofiane for reaching his goal. The next few riders seem to be lucking out with not only light winds, but mild temps as well. Get it fellas!!

Yeah, he's on a tear!! He's done a few very fast ITTs over the years, I believe he scratched out of the most recent ones.

So whats with the round prairie/ Koko claims section of the route? I haven't followed the last couple years... Is that new this year? If so why? Do people that are wanting to challenge the current course records go the old route?

Koko Claims to Fernie, etc. were added to the route in 2017. It's my understanding, while Mike Hall's record was set in 2016, any record attempt needs to be on the current published route not including any re-routes for forest fires, etc. So, yes, while the overall course had changed from '16 to '17 & beyond, I'm guessing here, that it was deemed insignificant in the grand scheme since the record wasn't reset. I suppose someone could indeed ride the exact route Mike did if they wanted a more equal comparison, but as we all know, weather & route conditions vary greatly from year to year.
Over on the Arizona Trail Race, between 2019 & 2020, the 750 route was updated and changed by over 10%. So the 750 and its records were retired/archived after the 2019 Grand Depart. The AZT800 was born and with it, new records. But even that route will continuously get updated as the ATA keeps eliminating dirt road sections in favor of building new singletrack. Unless that route changes by more than 10% the records will remain year-to-year in spite of the changes.

Thank you for that explanation! Why did they change it? I did hate that "singletrack" section just south of elkford... Lol...

Also - there should be a race flow for this ITT I wonder what his sleep strategy is?

It's a close race for the North Bounders. 71 yr old Nat Cobb (my age so I'm partial) with a narrow gap over the young whipper snapper 64 yr ole Ken Knight. ;-)

It's really hard not to be impressed by these blokes! I guess Nat will raise the bar set by Hal. Will he be the oldest to complete within the "unofficial" time limit?

Nice to see Geoff Blance and Ken Scott on a good pace northbound. Ken looks like he'll crush his target time. Geoff's on pace for his too. I had the good fortune to ride with both of them a bit in the 2014 TDR (Ken below Polaris for a while, Geoff and I did Richmond Peak together) and have been watching them. Also glad to see Marshall Bird riding this year. He started with them at AW but had to scratch in Atlantic City it seems. I met Marshall in the 2014 TD (we rode into Butte together, he plagued with a failing bottom bracket). Nice to see three alums from that race line up in NM. I can guess why. In 2014 it poured/snowed the first six days almost nonstop and we were all pretty miserable. The weather was great as we got farther south that year (unlike this year!). Fine gents all of them and very strong riders for any age, and they're all around 60 or older (me too). Anyway, it's good to see these guys out there going strong. Here's to the grizzled vets! My money's on Marshall coming back and killing it. Hopefully Geoff and Ken, too.

At this rate, both should make it, That said, freeze-thaw slush & mud is type 3 or 4 fun.

Andrew is about 1.5 hours behind Sofiane's pace. But should get more favourable winds across the Basin.
