Since I turned 60 I am more interested in the "Elders" group

Following is the list I came up with. Anyone know of any others?

NAME                 Age
O'Brien, J.W.   60
McCready, Donald61
Kent Davidson   62
Carter, Glen   M   62
Hodges, James    62
Nahmias, Yair   63
Russell, Hal   M   64
Peschka, Bill   64
Ashton, Rick   66
Hipskind, Larry   72

I believe that James Hodges is the oldest race finisher ever at 61. He is riding again this year for the third time I believe. His time last year was 28:01:44

I'm thinking about TD in 2014 and am refining my gear and riding lots more. Not sure yet if it will happen, but training for it. I'll be 60 about a month before the start. I like to follow the vet riders and also the singlespeeders since that's all I ride. The photo is my bikepacker without bags. It's a Mark Slate designed OS Blackbuck.

Check out http://trackleaders.com/tourdivide13.  Much more than just a leaderboard.

Intrigued by the bike, especially the chainstays.  I assume from the tube sizes it's steel/cromo frame?  How does it ride?

Yes steel. It's a quick handling, smooth, super fun bike.

It looks like a few of the over 60 crowd has scratched. From what I can see, James Hodges is in the lead. It looks like the track is real fast so far this year.

Anybody heard about Don McCready?  Enjoyed his company last year and was ready to cheer on his dot this year.

According to his trackleader page he has scratched.

When I was in my mountain bike racing in my late teen years I learned to fear 4 types of riders.  Those over 60, those on single speeds and locals.  All three in one was to be feared above all else.

All the elders out there that started this race have my utmost respect.  Gives me hope for my future.  Roll on GeriWheels!!!

Anyone come up with a good way to follow the older guys? I guess I can just highlight each name and compare but that's a pain. It's so nice to follow the singlespeeders as they have their own category.

Just checked the trackleaders map and it looks like a fast two way race between James Hodges and Kent Davidson, with James having a small lead. I see 5 others still racing, including ITT racers.

Thanks for that list...  I had wondered who the oldest finisher was for this.  Think I will get my then 64 year old self headed northbound from AW for the GD next year.   Young guys can't have all of the fun !

I think James Hodges is the oldest race finisher from what I can gather. If anyone knows differently chime in! He did it last year at age 61.

David Horton finished in 25 days in 2011 at the age of 61 or 62. Incredible athlete and ultra-runner. Google search him and you will see he is somewhat of a legend in the ultra world.

Holds all sorts of through hike records as well. Amazing dude with a more amazing attitude.

Cheers!

Met David a couple of times that year, tough as old boots. He was mentioned in Scott Jureks recent book.

James Hodges just left Ovando and Kent Davidson is still there. A tight race for the "mature" crowd lead! icon_biggrin
