can't believe more sobo racers haven't dropped out at this point with the weather they have been dealing with. truly a tough bunch of riders this year!

Incredible! Many of them are camping/bivying; it's one thing to pedal through a cold rain and quite another to get out of a sleeping bag and pack your soggy gear up for another day of the same. Make it 3-4 days in a row and it takes a lot of mental toughness to keep going. |

Nathan, your dad is eating at the Stray Bullet right now. I gave him your message exactly and I think I brought at least one tear to his eyes. You could tell your words meant more than the world to him, especially now with the weather beating them all up. Thanks for letting me pass this along!
Hey Angler, thank you so so so much! I think he has quietly been "plotting" doing this race for a couple years, and this is finally the realization of his goal to do something truly "epic"! He has always been the strong-quiet-consistent type, so for him to go so hard out of the blocks like he has in the past few days has been pretty awesome to see! Every time we hike or ride together he is always the first to encourage the other folks, so I am doing what I can to give that back! Thanks again for all the support you are showing to the riders! Michael Zachary is FLYING toward Seeley Lake... hopefully to some HOT food and warmth! For those who don't know, just prior to the start of the TD, he biked solo from LA to KeyWest over the course of seven weeks, took two weeks off then made the Grand Depart! Please give him a shout out and hugs from all of us back here in Tucson who are living vicariously monitoring his little blue dot!

According to trackleaders 'weather conditions' overlay it's 32 and snowing in Wise River and it looks as if Jefe's momentum has finally stopped. Just spotty SPOT data? Or is he holed up somewhere? What's to offer in Wise River?

Restaurant, mercantile, rooms for rent. Would make a good rest stop. |

Spot Trackers has some issues going through the big cold clouds of the Rockies!? Depends on the Spot model, where it's located on the bike/rider, operator error, tree cover.......... |

Maybe he's storing some energy for the road walk between Bannack and Lima. It hasn't happened for a few years in the TD, but these roads destroy bikes when they are wet: mud gunks everything, shredded tires, destroyed drivetrains, bad news. It just finished raining on these roads, but the forecast is for more rain and snow. They do dry out decently fast. On the other hand, it would be ideal if the roads would freeze, but that won't happen with a forecasted low of only 29. |

me thinks the Nobo race is going to be huge next year as racers realize that it is ideal to miss fire season/monsoon season in New mexico and the rain and snow of Montana.

Sorry for the delay but the riders hijacked my laptop for a bit. Currently in Ovando and awaiting to see what the weather has to offer are: Tom De Vries of Alberta, Geoff Blanc of New Zealand, Calvin Decker of VT, David Wicks of Australia and David Stowe. All have stories about Richmond Peak, with most agreeing it is arguably the most treacherous portion thus far and probably of the entire race. All did the circle about looking for the trail and staying true to gps. All are warming up, drying off and consuming mass quantities at the Stray Bullet Café. Will let you know their decisions on the day but they've been here alllllll morning so far.

ITT bill Peschka had a steak in wise River last night about 7 o'clock. He moved on south and camped out. He's been moving for a few hours this morning and seems to be doing okay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Angler, thanks so much for your continued updates and pictures. My husband Andy spent the night at Holland Lake last night so I'm thinking he should be in your area later today or tomorrow. (I'm in no way a cyclist, so I honestly have no idea, just following the dot on the map!  ) Take good care of him. My boys and I are following his journey closely and we are so grateful for people like you. That is one of the things Andy was really looking forward to on this journey - the people he meets along the way. |

Both places are good spots for a break and in Jefe's case he is looking at bike- and body-destroying mud shortly down the road, so it would be a good strategic move to rest there. |

In Columbia falls This weather is devastatingly brutal No other way to describe it Gore tex coat can't even hang I am destroyed physically and mentally In rain gear all race except 4 hours Knee pain galore Afraid to go for ferndale or anywhere at this moment Nearly went hypothermic on 12 mile ride from whitefish  I am stunned Never seen anything like this since 2007 Ctr This blows that away though Gonna have to play it safe Not much else really to do |
