Both places are good spots for a break and in Jefe's case he is looking at bike- and body-destroying mud shortly down the road, so it would be a good strategic move to rest there.

Perhaps Jefe and Alex have shut off their spots, for strategy. What do you think?

Seems early for a sneak attack, but who knows?

Ovando Update:  Sarah Caylor arrived extremely hypothermic and after two hours is finally able to walk and take nourishment.  She will be spending the night in town.  David Stowe and Geoff Blanc have left Ovando and are going to try for Lincoln.  Tom, Calvin and David Wicks are staying the night hoping for their clothes to dry.  Marshall Bird and Michael Zachary have just arrived.  Michael has already decided to stay the night.  Photos et al pending as soon as I can get to them.  Carry On!

Hey Angler, thank you so so so much! I think he has quietly been "plotting" doing this race for a couple years, and this is finally the realization of his goal to do something truly "epic"! He has always been the strong-quiet-consistent type, so for him to go so hard out of the blocks like he has in the past few days has been pretty awesome to see!   Every time we hike or ride together he is always the first to encourage the other folks, so I am doing what I can to give that back!

Thanks again for all the support you are showing to the riders!

Nathan

Nathan just read him your message and ----- dude ----- your killing him.  :-)  Good job!

You are good folks down in Ovando, thanks so much (AGAIN) for taking care of the racers!  We all hope the weather clears up!

FYI David Stowe's tracker is not keeping up.  When he arrived in Ovando his dot was still in Seeley.  It caught up only minutes later.  I see that he is again stalled when I know he is moving on.

Haha thanks, I have no doubt he is frusterated and wants to keep going, but sometimes the safe-thing is not always the "easy-thing"!  Thanks again Angler!  Maybe I will come visit you in a couple years when I can be gone from the kids for a few weeks?!  I would be more than honoured to buy "ya'll" a beer for your efforts!

It looks like Alex really was stopped in Butte; his Spot has started updating again and he's on the move.  Really curious to see where Jefe will be when his Spot updates next!

And good work to all battling through the cold and rain, you're amazing!

I have another suggestion for the trackleaders folks:

Please add another field called something like "Pace", and calculate it as "Total length of the GPS line" divided by "Route Distance per day". The units for Pace are days. (It's an estimate of days-to-complete---the total number---it doesn't count down.)

Scroll down to the leaderboard and click "Projections".  Poof! You can also sort columns by clicking a column heading.

Odd...Marcus Meier made it to Lincoln and now on highway back to Ovando. Angler - any idea if he forgot something in Ovando?

And once the Race is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure whether the Race is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the Race, you won't be the same person who rode in. That's what the Race is all about.

We're sad in ATX to hear about Sheila R dropping out and we hope she's okay and recovers quickly.  Now that she has some company of other Texas Ladies, who knows?  Sheila TB is off on her own now but looks likes she's going to keep the 30-day pace flag company.  Those darn things never sleep though.   Wink

Bummer, indeed.  I was hoping he just left something in Ovando and was going back to get it.

I'm at Montana High Country Lodge just outside of Polaris.  It's a must stop. Great welcome and food.  They're eager to do anything for you.  They make it hard to leave. Heading on out as soon as all is dry.

I have to stop racing. I saw a physician in Seeley Lake. I apparently have really bad bronchitis and I would be risking permanent damage by continuing.

Good luck to all out there!!!!
