Odd...Marcus Meier made it to Lincoln and now on highway back to Ovando. Angler - any idea if he forgot something in Ovando?
news to us! looks like he has stopped again. nobody should do huckleberry twice in a day, especially today.

I think Mr. Branham is in the catbird seat. He has a long stretch of pavement with a quartering wind and a gradual climb to generate some BTU's. He has the High Country Lodge to duck into if things get too bad and can monitor AH from there. Mr. Harris, meanwhile, still has to glissade Fleecer, perhaps in the dark. The essence of what makes the TD a tough race is in full bloom this year. Lots of climbing, sure; rough roads, sure; remote, sure. But it's the duration of exposure that sets it apart.
I'm reminded of the moment I made my peace with The Great Divide during last September's floods. Colorado and New Mexico were in the midst of the biggest floods in their histories and it occurred to me that weather IS the The Divide. Otherwise it's just a long dirt road ride with nothing technical or intimidating. Unlike the AZT and CTR, where there's plenty of challenging riding, TD gets you with exposure. It's so long and so remote you're just begging to be victimized by tough weather. This year's winnowing of racers is especially tough. Everyone sitting at home is wondering if they could do it.

I have to stop racing. I saw a physician in Seeley Lake. I apparently have really bad bronchitis and I would be risking permanent damage by continuing. Good luck to all out there!!!!
Bummed for you, Justin. Was hoping you would make a 2nd finish this year. Get well soon.

Looks like Markus Meier is at Trixi's on the highway of Ovando. Made it to Lincoln and then took the highway back. Not sure what he has to gain by returning here. Sad to see.

Hey Angler. Thanks for the photo of Geof. - Denise
Great to see three Kiwi rookies all from the same home town (Alexandra) doing well in tough conditions. Geof, Rob Davidson & Scottie (Ken Scott) all chugging along. Keep it going lads! I'm guessing some riders have their spot trackers buried in bags in the weather they're getting, so maybe that's why they are slow to update....

First time I've logged onto the internet since starting this awesome race. I haven't read much of the above because I truly have enjoyed the "mystery" of what's going on out here. It's amazing to wake up, start pedaling and see who and what is out there. My main goal of starting this thing was not challenge any particular person other than myself and of course this event. All of us out here are getting a full dose of the TD. I applaud everyone out here and anyone who's wheels even rolled out of Banff. Mostly I wanted to give a big thanks to all the locals I've run a into out here. Truly some good folks. As always Ovando is superb and I'd also like to mention the super hospitality of the folks here in Lincoln at the Three Bears Motel where I'm currently held up. When I walked in this morning I'm sure I looked a complete mess. After a bit of a tumble on the descent from Red Meadow pass a few days ago I haven't been able generate the body heat required to stay warm. Definitely not hard enough to generate the required heat up on Huckleberry Pass this morning. When I rolled into town I was colder than I've been thus far. They very quickly got a room cleaned for me and got me a perfect cup of hot coffee. Just wanted to give them proper kudos here. It's amazing out here even if it has rained or snowed on all of us for all but maybe 5 hourse since leaving Banff. I push off in the a.m again to find more amazing places and people. My banged up knee can't be any worse than anything else everyone out here is experiencing. Besides, all pain and bleeding stops eventually...
Oh, one last thing, don't re-apply chamois cream out in the Flathead valley when it's been raining and everything is covered with sand/mud. A sandy slury between your thighs is not a good thing! Cheers! Josh

Thanks. It was a hard decision, but like Marshall said, "You don't really even have a decision to make." I'll be back as soon as I can.

Klaus, Alice and Andy have arrived in Ovando. Klaus already heading out. Crazy dude. The Two A's grabbing a quick bite at the Stray Bullet and then heading out. Photos will be posted tonight when I figure them all out. Carry on!

Sounds like something Marshall would say, honestly. Snow starting at least at 5,000' level.
FYI, the top of Huckleberry is just 6,000' level. Some racers (like aforementioned Marshal) are cresting soon as of this post, 6:42pm race time. And, ... there's no stopping for leader Jefe at the Montana High Country Lodge in Polaris. What a baller.

You had posted a note earlier so I wrote it down and put it on the white chat board. Pointed it out to him upon his arrival. He was thrilled. Think he even took a photo of it. So he is aware you are watching over him!

If you have not heard from him will put a note on the board as he currently is in Seeley Lake and will hit Ovando tomorrow. Who should he contact?

And once the Race is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure whether the Race is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the Race, you won't be the same person who rode in. That's what the Race is all about.

Bill Peschka ITT and Jefe Branham dropped in this afternoon. Bill slept in one of the "micro cabins" at Pettengil Campground last night. He spent a few hours warming up and refueling at Montana High Country Lodge this afternoon before he took off for the Medicine Lodge.
Jefe spent the majority of last night on top of Fleecer Mountain in several inches of new snow after being rained on all day. He made it to Wise River very late, found shelter in the post office until the local business opened this morning. He took some down time in Wise River before coming over the Pioneer Mountain's Scenic Byway this afternoon. He was all set with groceries and was pushing on toward Lima when I talked to him. It's been a cold, wet couple past days for all the TD riders in Montana. Hope they find shelter when they need it!
