I looked up Katie and Sam's webpage and they're riding for a great cause that fits right with the TD spirit!  They are quite inspiring!!

Amazing fortitude in this brutal weather, everyone!

Jefe is about to enter the "hurt locker".

When it rains, Old Bannack road turns into a sticky, soul-sucking beast. It's a long, desolate stretch that has a history of destroying drive trains and achilles heels. Compared to dry conditions, the muddy road can double the time it takes to reach Lima.

Godspeed Jefe!

Alex looped back via highway to Butte - bike trouble, anyone know?

Dying to find out myself.  It looks like he was stopped just off the route for over an hour before deciding to loop back to Butte.  Crash?  Shitty weather just too much?  2013 was Alex's first TD, and it was so much more benign than 2014 has been.  Reading the weather reports from here, I know I would've been struggling out there today.

Bill Peschka ITT and Jefe Branham dropped in this afternoon.  Bill slept in one of the "micro cabins" at Pettengil Campground last night.  He spent a few hours warming up and refueling at Montana High Country Lodge this afternoon before he took off for the Medicine Lodge.

Jefe spent the majority of last night on top of Fleecer Mountain in several inches of new snow after being rained on all day.  He made it to Wise River very late, found shelter in the post office until the local business opened this morning.  He took some down time in Wise River before coming over the Pioneer Mountain's Scenic Byway this afternoon.  He was all set with groceries and was pushing on toward Lima when I talked to him.  It's been a cold, wet couple past days for all the TD riders in Montana.  Hope they find shelter when they need it!
Great to see that they are ok! I hope the sun comes out for everyone. Go Jefe!

I have a question about the ghost markers.  Do they only move so often, or is this where JP actually rested back in 2012?  This seems to be stopped and then makes big jumps.  Thanks

His marker is at the Outdoorsman, so I'm guessing mechanical.

You had posted a note earlier so I wrote it down and put it on the white chat board.  Pointed it out to him upon his arrival.  He was thrilled.  Think he even took a photo of it.  So he is aware you are watching over him!

I just read that to the boys, you made our night! Smiley

Hmmm...on the Race Flow, first place is Jefe, and second place is Lorenzo. Alex is not on the Flow list. Oversight, or someone know something we don't? Just sayin'

And once the Race is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure whether the Race is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the Race, you won't be the same person who rode in. That's what the Race is all about.

As far as I understand (which may not be far), the ghost markers are the actual historical track of the current record holders.  JP lost his spot somewhere between Helena and Lima, or somesuch, during his record run, so his 'ghost marker' makes a big jump in this section.  Hope this helps explain.  Basically, ghost markers are not an average, but a specific person's historical data.

Alex is just a bit off route in Butte (see his individual page).  When he gets going again and sends a point closer to the route, he'll show back up in second place in the race flow.  Unless Lorenzo passes him first.

Hey all, first post. I noticed the post wrt Ashley Benns  and since I live in Whitefish and considering the weather have decided to be available for a TD rider that is in need of some help if the situation arises. Checked Ashley's position and looks like he is camped at the Two Chuck campground and now has visitor, Monique Tschurr so hopefully all is well, we'll see.

Anyways, if someone here knows the best form of contact to keep me posted send along a PM tonight(I'll head to bed at about 10:30PM) or in the morning and we'll go from there.

Thanks,
RD

My guess is that the software/coding can't reconcile the backtrack he did, 'cuz he was on the flow chart not to long ago.

Go Alice D!  First place female now (non-ITT), on a SS no less, climbing Huckleberry where there's reportedly snow?!  Go get it, Alice - pulling for you to make Lincoln tonight!

MikePro and MattL are correct on the ghost markers and also Race Flow for Alex.  Alex will show back up when he gets back on route, which might mean when he returns to where he flipped around.

JayP's ghost will start tracking better once he gets his SPOT back.  We faked a few points at intermediate points, but I believe he gets a new SPOT in Lima.

Going to play catch up on the photos and news:

Staying over night:
1.  Sara Caylor who recovered dramatically from her instance of hypothermia.  Took a few hours of warming but after nourishment, a hot shower, and some rest a completely different person emerged from the sodden shell that was Sara.  She is already antsy to continue on.  But she has too keep an eye on those legs that are looking a wee bit swollen.

2.  Tom De Vries left Ovando when the weather cleared for Lincoln and appears to have made it.

3.  Calvin Decker and David Wicks are staying over in the Old Hooscow and plan on an early start in the am

4.  Casey Rhea arrived around 6 pm and immediately took over the Sheppard's Wagon for the night.

More Photos and Ovando News:

1.  Here are Casey Rhea's photos.  Said he had a heck of a day and was glad to finally be in Ovando.  Photo is by his room for the night.

2.  Andy Amick arrived with Alice Drobna [photos next post] arrived just before Casey and immediately headed to the Stray Bullet for a quick sandwich wrap before heading out again.  Both had messages from fans and/or family and were thrilled to see them posted on the message board.
