Our friend Nic Handy has had a rough start to the ride with trouble to his knee from day one. His goal for today is to make it to Ovando. Hoping he makes it for all that fine Ovando hospitality! Stay strong, Nic!

The post by "'muma" (Ms. Branham) is a wonderful reminder of just what a unique sport this is.  I remember Ms. Olsen's "Cordillera" entry about James-o, the Kraft's father/son race last year, the loving exchanges (via "Angler") between Mr. Devries and his son, etc..  Yeah, this year's leather-tough uncompromising leader may seem inhuman, but he still has a  Mom and shes's still "with him."  Family support, concern, and removed "omnipresence" are such a cool part of this race.  We all become family members, especially the first week of this year's race!

TD14: Kristian Myers called in to say he is BACK in the race! Jason Snell called in from Condon! Brian Bridau called in from Butte! And Max Morris called in from Butte where the Harley dealer made him breakfast!

Ha, Max is one funny dude. I was expecting to hear they kicked him out and called the cops. The experiences are one of a kind on the TD.

Good Morning Everyone from Ovando MT!

The sun has shone it's face a bit today and the temp is already 10 degrees warmer than the highest temp yesterday.  The worst is over weather wise.

Between TD and road bikers the town was absolutely FULL of drenched riders and most of them dried off enough to leave very early in the a.m.
-  Michael Cleaver is still in town and obviously not in a hurry to leave.  He be chillin'.
-  Valerie Kato of WA came and went after a breakfast on a bad stomach.  She was happy she spent the night in Seeley as her intestinal issues would have been worsened by a cold wet night.  Valerie we're watching you and hoping your health straightens up.
-  Casper Ortvald of Denmark in and out after a meal
-  Allen riding with Casper ditto
-  Charlie Kharse of CA spent a bit more time.  Great story about supermanning down the Richmond Peak snow shoot after a bush caught his handlebars on the single track portion.  Hands out front, sliding on his belly.  Would have made a great video.

also a photo from this morning when the sun was out for a bit and the Biker Clothes Dryer out in front of the Blackfoot Commercial Company.
more coming up.....

continuing from Ovando:

-  Chris Thompson AZ and
-  George Koefler PA [who had gps issues but I think is back on track] came and went quickly
-  Antonio Mondine of Italy at 65 yoa along with his "interpreter"
-  Daniele Modolo of Italy spent a bit more time drying clothes, gathering up and having a warm meal and entertaining us with the stereotypical Italian hand sign language.

So far the road is bare between here and Seeley Lake.  Folks taking it much easier and getting over their weather related issues probably.    Hopefully we'll see some folks later today.  After the last 3 days, today is practically pristine.

Carry On

So some advice for all of these cold wet people.... When you get to Colorado and then New Mexico just remember that nice cool air and wetness as your lips begin to crack!

By the way in the Gunnison area it is cool and breezy. Very nice for riding but still cold/below freezing at night.

Jefe is still doing a quite impressive pace, when compared to the ghost of JayP - just a few (paved) miles back, near the intersection to Jackson Hole. JayP was in home territory, and if I remember, thinking of some people close to him, that had recently passed away.

If Jefe can keep the pace similar to JayP, he could potentially roll right over JayP, once in NM. I remember JayP hit a few monsoon storms that turned the route into impassable mud. Lots to be ridden before then, though!

Yeah the pace projections still show him beating The Ghost, was curious what he ran into late in the ITT that slowed him down. It all makes sense now Wink

Lindsey Sheppard ITT, our first NOBO rider has arrived in Ovando.  And she was wearing a tank top.  Yes the weather is warmer but seriously?

Steve Watson, 67 years young, of Australia has been in and out of Ovando.

Michael Cleaver is still here.

Carry on!
