Continued from Ovando:

Moments later arriving to  applause from the Scott, Tuan and Jean:

-  Michael McMillan of Louisiana.

Who chimed in with the TDR 2014 Chorus of:  "Richmond Peak was just not fun at all"!

As you can see from the photo his is pedaling a heavy bike hence he has been the chaser the entire time.  It's hard for him to keep up with the lighter bikes.  He is going to Butte and re-evaluate.

And from the look of it we are through for the day and possibly more.  That trail looks mighty empty.  Except for a couple in the far rear our next push will be the NOBO's in the coming week(s).

Carry On!

Thank you to everyone who has help me though this race but had to call it quits after a nasty accident before the border. I attached photos of my helmet to remind everyone that helmets are not a bad idea. Just wanted to let everyone one know I'm back home again. Best of luck to everyone still riding the TD!

Good Day Fellow TDR observers [and riders so I've just found out].

Looks to be a slow day for arrivals which is unfortunate; what are we to do now?

The 4 that have come and gone after a good meal and banter:

-  Scott McKinnon of the UK [another competitor of the best beard contest]
-  Jean Fankhauser of WA
riding with
- Tuan Diep of CA who is riding "underground".  Basically riding with Scott and Jean as an Independent Time Traveler.

Stories include the lack of brakes and brake pads or the increased need of them this year.

But for me, the meeting up with Scott, camera in hand, was my biggest surprise.  He rode up to me and immediately said "So You're Angler!".  How did you know?  "I've been reading your posts and looking at the pictures."   I was the one standing with my jaw to the dust this time.  Thanks Scott!

Continued next post

Thank you so much for the updates. Guys are looking better than I thought they would be... And of course, Jean is saying howdy to the pooch... I don't think he can pass by a hound and not say hello! Looking great! And we finally get an image of the mysterious Tuan! Good news all around!

Cheers

So glad you made it home. We've been praying for you and had you in our thoughts sense Scott mentioned you had fallen, in a phone home conversation. Really glad to hear your ok. Put your feet up for a while, dear one. You totally deserve a rest!

Cheers

My non biking buddies are always telling me how "dorky" looking bike helmets are, HAH!!  I would much rather have a dorky looking helmet smashed than having my head look dorky after a crash!!  Thanks for the visual TearFilter. thumbsup

I hope Katie and Sam's 14 hour silence is Spot-related and not trouble.

hypothermia--

Seems like a good number of riders were/are battling this. As a potential 2015 racer, I'm VERY curious how to avoid it, or to deal with it once it's begun. All advice would be appreciated! Thanks!!
Hi! Cold temperatures and rain are very dangerous. When it´s raining, you don´t need really low temperatures to get hypothermic. If you are tired and, if you don´t have good clothes, 8-10 ºC are sufficient to get hypothermic. The best way to prevent hypothermia is to recognize the first symptoms. When you recognize these first symptoms, you have to think what to do... In the TD, the most probably is that you won´t have a tent, a stove, and perhaps neither dry clothes. So, you are in a trouble... It can be a very serious trouble if you are very far of civilization. Because you need to reach to a town, to a lodge, to somewhere to get warm and be safe. When you recognize the first symptoms (and if you haven´t enough material to stop and be safe), you have to think about, where is the nearest safe point. Ride fast but without extenuated, eat and drink....
Before going out with rain and cold, you have to see the safe points in the route, the escape points... If you haven´t experience with cold temperatures you have to be very conservative...
