Yup I am out.  Twas a pretty easy call, a mediocre start/position coupled with BB wobbles and shot rear hub by Wise River topped off with a nasty open wound saddle sore.  I fought thru the same saddle sore issue in 2010 but no way was it worth attempting this time around.

Best of luck to all who persevered thru the rain and are still plugging away!

Marshal

A commendable effort Marshal.  Plus, I've enjoyed your blog during your months of preparation, gleaning insights for my own TD attempt in 2015.  Well done.

I was in colorado this weekend doing a ctr prep ride with Scott Shirey and we ran into Jill Hueckman on climbing of Boreas pass.  I had a good chat with her for the last third of the climb and she was in great spirits and seems excited about the journey... and pedaling strong as well.  It was great meeting you, Jill and keep up the good work.

Busy Saturday night at the Montana High Country Lodge in the Grasshopper valley...eleven TD riders stayed with us and we hosted a wedding for 125 guest.  The wedding folks thought the TD riders were "Rock Stars" and ask them to join the fun...several did as you can see.  We had quite a bit of rain through the night so it looks like tough sledding over the Bannack Bench road and the top of Medicine Lodge before dropping into Sheep Creek Canyon.

I don't suppose anyone has any idea why Jill appears to have stopped just a few hours into her day today. Hope she didn't drop her Spot (*again*). But that'd be better than any number of other reasons why she might actually be stopped.

Steve Watson is have a tough day with navigation - currently he's on his second detour doing extra miles on day 3. He missed the turn of Flathead Valley Rd, and now has a second issue and is heading north instead of south.

Does anyone know what he is using for navigation? Would this not show on the GPS as being off-track?

Hi KiwiDave,

Dad's getting around with a Garmin Edge 810 so should be good to go unless he already ran it out of juice!
I was also wondering what he was up to, and guess maybe he might have been heading off somewhere to a small town for supplies but I guess he was just not paying attention and enjoying the scenery too much! Wink

Looks like he's more or less stayed on track the last week.

Cheers.

Como Depot chimed in yesterday to this thread, so assumption is that they are following again this year.

Listen to Brian Remlinger's last call to MTBCast.  He talks about David's dog named Banff and his hospitality but doesn't sound like he's still open for business.

Sorry to hear you scratched, but glad to know you are Okay. I followed you in 2010 and your advice helped me prepare for my 2011 attempt that ended in Butte.

Nat looks set to finish late tonight, the first finisher of the year.  Go Nat!

That is an interesting record to contemplate: the earliest finish date ever.  A combination of playing chicken with the weather, choosing NoBo (probably yes) vs SoBo, etc.  Sort of like "first winter ascent" honors in the mountaineering world.

My guess is that whether 6/23 or 6/24, Nat will have this record very soon.
