TD14: Overnight and morning calls - Mark Caminiti called in from Rawlins. It’s a two-fer with some kind words and props for the show. Valeria Kato called in from Rawlins. She’s surviving on Gummy Bears and beef jerky! Sheila Torres-Blank called in from Rawlins with a two-fer recap! Charlie Kharsa called in from Rawlins after fighting some wind and replacing parts! John Fairbairn called in from Rawlins nursing a hand injury. Jessica Green called in from Pinedale! She reports seeing a wolf! And David Wilson called in from Helena where he’s drying out in a cabin.

Not sure how that number is calculated. May include their actual mileage with stops, detours, etc and not a mile marker type of number?
The long answer: All Trackleaders live systems are coded with a 'route factor'. This is a number slightly greater than 1 that is manipulated to arrive at a more accurate distance figure of a course than what is reflected in the red line on the map. It's supposed to account for all the little bends on a trail. In the case of TD, there is indeed a highly accurate GPX track coded in 'underneath' the red line seen on the map. I can't recall what that accurate distance is... i want to say 2710 or something like that. Anyway, the TD route as it is raced is not quite 2745 b/c of the legal Alts in NM being slight less than the main route. I just looked at the route factor setting, and it was set at our standard 1.073, which is high for the level of accuracy of the GPX 'underneath'. It was giving us inflated mileage. I ramped the factor down to 1.023, and we'll see how that looks when jefe reaches the finish. If it's still too high I'll lower it again.

Does anyone know how much longer the new route into Butte took on average? On trackleaders it shows almost 80mi longer-wow. We may need an asterisk on the fastest times. That is kind of a big deal. Either way congrats to all the finishers and those that gave it a go.
Jarral--here's the beta riders were provided pre-race. It's what ACA went to press with after the TD start / will be on the next Map 1b: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iyXrTvW-9Ev5PBdRTN2N41C_QHs1clo-ZkFdDBZfja0/pubhtml#

So will Jefe's time be the second fastest ever for the complete route?  Couldn't find 2011 and 2012 times anywhere to compare those years.  SO impressive to be out front for so long, pushing alone and digging deep.

Ollie Whalley won in 2012 with a time of 16:02:46 and he rode with Craig Stappler for most of the way to Grants, where Craig's pedal disintergrated. Here is a clip of them from Eddie Clark:
Tour Divide with Craig Stappler and Ollie Whalley on Vimeo

Looks like Jefe will just beat that time by a handful of minutes, and he did it solo and without any close competition after Alex dropped out.

Chapeau Jefe.

I can't even imagine what Jefe is feeling and thinking right now.  To be so close to the finish.  Is it euphoria or a let down cuz the journey will be completed?

I have Ollie Whalley's 2012 run at 16:02:46. Jefe will be close if not a skosh faster? Bikepackers Mag has him at 16:02:37 but I don't see his dot on the line.

Adding together Stopped and Moving time gives 16:02:40 - a few minutes faster than Ollie in 2012. Another truly great Tour Divide completion - well up there in the all-time list of TD rides.

Amaizing! Where are you finding the extra 3 minutes from what Trackleaders says?

That would seem about right as I saw :37 back up the road about .1mi or so.

1.)  If someone does an ITT remote to the Grand Depart, say outside the month of June, can they still say they've done the Tour Divide?  Clearly course records are recognized under those circumstances, but does someone still say they've done the TD?

2.)  Anyone know anything about what the free-spirited Jill Hueckman is up to?  Her SPOT has been in Boulder for more than two days, though I'd bet she's seen the Tetons by now.

Yes.  Like saying you've done the Appalachia Trail (but in a race mode).

1) Yep!

2) Not sure. She hasn't called in.

1) So long as they follow the TD rules and use either a Spot or GS log, then yes.  If they follow their own rules then they can say they've done the GDMBR, but not the Tour Divide.

Matthew---When you finalize the numbers, can you post the before and after route factors? I've been keeping a spreadsheet and it's gonna be way off with the change mid-course. Alternately, you could wait until next year to change it. It only matters, probably, for people keeping spreadsheets or handwritten data, so...I'm probably in the minority. No biggie either way.
