Anyone know anything about Lorenzo? No Spot movement in like 14 hours!
Listening to his MTBCast report, he had no health or gear issues at Cuba, so perhaps he simply forgot to turn his SPOT on this morning or the batteries died. I'd assume he is riding with Geof Blance.

Jen and I were bikepacking a CDT-GDMBR loop between El Rito and Chama this weekend, and this morning we caught up with Rob Davidson of New Zealand on the flanks of Burned Mountain. He was in good spirits, though he said he was hungry and tired. We rode a few miles with him, and he was moving along nicely, in spite of some issues with the cabling to his Rohloff hub. Every now and again, he'd have to stop, get off the bike, and manually shift it. He didn't seemed too fussed by it, "Better that than something on my body going wrong." Mostly he was just intent on getting to El Rito for some chow. Lucky for Rob, when we rolled into the tiny enclave of Plaza Blanco, the "Summer Store" was open (it was closed when Jen and I passed through on Saturday). We left him there, and he looked mighty happy to feed. He said his plan from here forward was "to go for a long bike ride each day, sleep a bit, then go for another long bike ride. Till I get to the border." Pushing hard, I think he meant. Lovely guy. Great spirit.

Nice, Leese! Thx for the fine reporting. I am now wondering what has / will become of the original concrete block podium in AW? I sure hope they don't demo it. I think a call to our favorite border guard, Tim is in order.

Woah, looks like quite the modern complex these days, at least from that photo. Just another reason to pedal down that way and see it first-hand, again. Thanks for sharing the photo.

Steve Watson is have a tough day with navigation - currently he's on his second detour doing extra miles on day 3. He missed the turn of Flathead Valley Rd, and now has a second issue and is heading north instead of south.
Does anyone know what he is using for navigation? Would this not show on the GPS as being off-track?
I don't know if anyone has answered this (its a bit late anyway but here goes) he apparently could not hear the beeps from his GPS due to the weather noise and the amount of clothing he had on because of the weather at the time. Last time I rode with him he had a Garmin from memory. Not sure what type.

Newbie here, with a noob question.
What's the deal with people who are racing, but who don't appear on the Race Tracker? I noticed a white-haired guy riding a Surly ECR, in the pix from Brush Mountain Lodge. He also shows up in some earlier pictures in this thread. I think he is Kevin McDonald. But he is not on the race tracker. What's up with that?
Also, GO Alice Drobna! Heading for first place, while riding a singlespeed. Wow.

"SPOT GPS trackers are strongly recommended but not required." - The Rules ( http://tourdivide.org/the_rules) No SPOT tracker, no blue dot. It's also possible that this person is touring the route, not racing it, in which case he wouldn't be on the trackleaders TD page. -dp

Kevin McDonald is listed on the start list, though. So I guess he doesn't have a SPOT.

The Boundary Commission plaques are still there at Antelope Wells, right on the physical border We waited a few weeks ago in the morning, for CBP to open the gate and then took a few pictures there, but you can only get to it between 8 and 4 And the guys working the station knew about TD and seemed pretty pleasant.

Anyone else notice Markus_Meier's balloon on Trackleaders recently?
I really like that guy's taste in recovery rides! I'm guessing he's feeling lots better by now.

I thought I understood the route/rules, but this Basin-to-Butte pre-race information sheet confused me a bit: does this mean riders could do either route, or is "I-15 Alternate" only to be used in case of a closure of the Main Route (due to fires, for example)? I.e., could Jefe have ridden I-15 instead?

Looks like Calvin is going to call it a night in Silver City. He's putting in a great ride! Tomorrow he will have the full power and glory of the Chihuahuan Desert on, maybe, the last day before the monsoons come down.

TD14: Overnight/Morning - Sheila Torres-Blank called in from Kremling after a good meal at Brush Mountain Lodge! Big Dave Wilson called in from Ferndale after fighting off grouse! Hal Russell called in from Rawlins after battling some mechanics, mud, and watching crack in his carbon frame. And Mike Docherty called in from Rawlins! Other than being stuck in a bathroom by a grizzly he’s doing well! http://mtbcast.com/site2/category/td14/

Only 3 ACA-official alternates are allowed for TD racers. One of those Alts is actually mandatory (down in the Gila, called, 'the Sapillo'). Other than that, one must keep to the main route. The new route to Butte is ACA's new 'main route'. I-15 becomes an alternate, but not a TD-legal one. Generally TD tries to steer clear of either / ors to keep time comparisons cleaner. Even the two really big legal ACA alternates in NM are almost never viewed as either / ors. From the beginning, (including Stamstad), only a handful of riders have traversed the main route between Cuba and Grants. The Chaco Alt is pretty de facto.
