Props and healing vibes to Sarah Caylor. What a tough day she had yesterday-- a bad crash, and then the news that her uncle passed away. Sending her condolences and best wishes for her healing. I hope it works out that she can continue. She's so close.

TD14: Max Morris called in from Milan. He had some fierce head winds getting there! And Gary Tucker called in from Steamboat Springs! He had to double-back to get a backpack, though. That area hasn't been kind to the Russel/Tucker clan as Hal lost a backpack near there last year!

Could be due to the Diego fire burning in the Santa Fe National Forest ... there are some road closures in effect up there

Call me sissy Hank Shaw if you must, but I am tired of hitching.  This is a brief tale of woe, relegation and, hopefully redemption.  First, my front hub broke after sparwoof.  With fathers day and Sunday, I had no chance of fixing it quickly.  Stuck out my thumb and hitched back to Banff, where I restarted 6 days later.  Made it to Holland lakes in 3 days where I picked up a stick and broke hanger.  I think slow, grimy action of fifty derralieur to blame.  Decided to hitch to kalispell or whitefish for new hanger.  Sunday again, and skihaus didn't sound like they would have it, so I got to condon, checked internet and hitched to Missoula to fix.  Also got a spare hanger.  A  few days later. A bad shift and the new hanger sheared off.  I had a spare but no. Chance to get it off with multi tool.  Hitched back to a and z hardware for a noisy fix that got me moving.
Before the mud section below togwotee, I noticed riders were staying on road.  Aca map said impassible when wet.  Not tough whemn wet, but impassable.  When I got to togwotee lodge, a couple of riders who pushed through the mud were pissed, said they called Matt Lee and that he said all who skipped mud would be relegated.

After I snapped second hanger, found out front wheel going out again.  Really. Did not look forward to a break down and more remote hitching, so I had my wife, who lived in Wyo., bring me a wheel.  Basically I don't have time to wait for a fix, so I opyef to do this so I could still ride the whole course under my own power.  Since I figured I was already relegated for missing first mud section( I hit 2nd, off top of togwotee, which was horrible) and because I hitched to Missoula through Seeley lakes, which might be a violation, I figured I was already relegated and had her bring a good supply of junk food to Atlantic city ad well.

The bike is still making annoying grinding whenever I climb hard( bent frame?) But I am having a good time and hoping for redemption in the form of riding entire course under my own power, even if quite lacking in style points.
