So psyched that Sarah C. seems to be staying in the race and making a strong push to the finish. You go, girl!

I have a feeling that Montana Miller is racing on Knards. Why would you ride a Krampus if you weren't going to use Knards?

Just when you thought the party was over, along comes an unexpected SOBO caboose: Michelle DuLieu of NY came into Ovando later this morning. I know I had given up on her after watching her blue dot sit in Whitefish for over a week. Apparently she is one of the recipients of this year's severe bronchitis outbreak so "got a mini vacation" popping antibiotics, resting and doing a bit of neighborhood biking. After she got through it she returned to the point of her department and started up once again. Talk about a lady with guts, determination and a wonderful laugh. Michelle we're watching you!

Sara Caylor! You have fought hypothermia ["why is it snowing in June?"] TWICE! And returned to the path leaving others in the dust. You have survived a crash and untold frustrations and hardships. Ovando is still watching over you and we know you got this. Keep going!
Calvin! I won a bet because of you. A certain naysayer at a certain café bet me you'd never ride out of Montana. I said you would. You were so mellow while thawing out you surprised all of us at your 2nd place finish. Talk about leaving folks in the dust. Congratulations.

Way to go Michelle! As a snail, I have a particular affection for those who take a bit longer.

Hi Angler, This is the first I've read of the severe bronchitis outbreak--can you tell me more? I think that my favorite rider thinks he's the only one who's been sick.

In my world an "outbreak" is a dramatic turn of phrase for at least 4 people that I've heard: Michelle, Colin Anderson being told to withdraw, heard that Justin Voss had to quit due to it, and from the coughing fits from other cyclists, including Cycling Cindy who sounded like she was coughing up a lung when she left, I wouldn't doubt there were others not as severe.

I still don't understand. These are not ones that have scratched and relegations are only determined after the race is over.

Thanks for that explanation, Angler. Sounds like an outbreak to me. Thanks, too for all of your informative updates. You're a gift to the riders, but also to those of us wondering how things are going.

TD14: Overnight - Jessica Green called in from Frisco! She stopped there to avoid some thunderstorms. And Kent McDonald called in from north of Pie Town. http://mtbcast.com/site2/category/td14/

Paul Barsom -- he passed through Ovando quite late at night, so he didn't get to meet you.

OK figured it out... Alternated from race route.
Thanks for pointing that out, and thanks to TL for adding more detail to the tracking page. Much appreciated, being able to see at a glance and filter by new orange category.

Maybe I'm being dense, but what does this mean? I see one "alternated" person and several "alternating" riders. Are these ones who rode official ACA alternates that are approved for TD? If so, there should be many more, since pretty much everyone takes the 2 main paved alternates in NM. Are they ones who took unofficial alternate routes? Does that include fire re-routes as well as those who missed turns or decided to skip sections?

If you look at the race tracks for the "Alternators," you can some of the alternators clearly deviated from the route shown on the screen: Monique Tschurr, Max Southam, Jurgen Meijer, Micheal McMillan, for example. And then there are some where I can't see why they're included in that group.

Heightens spectator interest. Pretty easy to see why some are included. Harder to figure why some are not. Now, for all those people that you might be following, it's not just, oh, hell, why aren't they moving? It's also, go!, go!, get to the finish before your route turns orange! And when you refresh, a big sigh of relief when you see their route hasn't turned orange. Definitely one step closer to network coverage. All in all, not a bad idea, imo. Easier to get my head around than the idea that if you cross any one of a multitude of thin lines, then you may as well be riding a bus, because you cease to exist for purposes of the "race". Just a spectator. Wtf do I know?

Looking at the finishers and Lindsay Shepard doesn't show up. She got to Banff 9 days ago, finishing up a nice NOBO ITT.
