Yeah, I'm dumbfounded. Sounds like she had the bad luck of encountering a complete idiot.
I have more information that I cannot disclose. It was obtained after the show last night and I was asked not to disclose it. Not because it was illegal or anything like that but because it involved a third party and everyone had the best of intentions. Suffice it to say what you or anyone else at the border says about you can tip the border agents to have the wrong impression and they might decline your entrance. Jill made some accommodations and obviously made it through. It doesn't appear to have anything to do with the rescue, however.

Thanks for the update. There's always more to every story, eh?

Always. I'm glad to know it wasn't regarding the rescue or anything like that.

I'm getting served ads for an HP product. The tag line is 'bend the rules'.

Having been an HP customer and supplier for twelve years, I find that stunningly accurate!

Andy self-relegated himself due to meeting his family in Breckenridge.
Sets a good example. Especially, as a family man myself, I can relate. Best example of understanding what it all means.

From Jill's FB page: "Yeah I hate that I am in Fernie. And that I had to hitch or push an unridable bike for 50 miles. And that the rear hub is toast. And the bike shop that is open here doesnt have one in stock. I will figure out a way to pedal into Banff but I hate that it will not be an official finish. But enough hating. I gave the TD literally everything I had...."

Do we know any more about Jill's situation? Where was she when the bike broke, why is she relegated, does this have anything to do with her problems entering Canada? I'm sorry she won't have an official finish; she was so close.

Nothing more. We'll have to keep an eye on her FB page.

Whats the URL for the Facebook page?
Looks like she had just gone over Cabin Pass when the bike failed. And she hitchhiked? But I didn't think there were cars in there.

Here's the URL: https://www.facebook.com/jill.hueckmanI think her concern was going forward on the route but I think she may be fine. http://tourdivide.org/td_rule_4_faqs

Looks like she made it to Butts Cabin and got a ride backward and lateral to Fernie. If she can get the bike fixed and get a ride back to where she left off, she can continue without penalty.

In the event of a serious mechanical or medical emergency that renders a bike unrideable, a rider may hitchhike[3] by motor vehicle in ANY direction to repair the problem. The location of the incident must be well documented by SPOT tracking or other GPS logger. A rider may also receive assistance returning back to the exact location of the breakdown to begin forward progress. Again, the entire incident, from breakdown to return to the route must be fully documented by GPS. Looks like Jill Hueckman would be OK, even if she had hitchhiked forward.
