I am working on a cue-sheet using the ACA maps but I only have the first section (of the 12) done. Any interest in this? I can share it via Google docs and the riders who are interested can add comments or make corrections.

I believe that the etrex 30 has a barometric altimeter in it which I think is very valuable. Also it has the ability to look ahead at your route from the downloaded GPX file, so you can see the elevation profile that lays ahead of you. Topo fusion software allows you to simplify and split the track so you can download the whole route onto your GPS. Ridewithgps (do a search on the internet) is really cool too. You can load the file into that and look at it with many different views, from satellite to topo. Loads real fast too!

yes i agree with you and i've a etrex30 Moreover with garmin basecamp software you've the possibility to work on gpx file in very simple way for: divide track, move points and so on.  |

They estimate around 200,000 feet of climbing over the entire route.
Good thing I do not know what that means. I will just be like, oh, another hill. Annnnd another hill. And oh, this hill sure is going on for a while...I only get to be a blissful first-timer once and dang it I am going to enjoy it  |

Yep, if the stars align I'll be going for the 'double crown' of road bikepacking. Will definitely be in Astoria on June 7th, and have paid up for the Transcontinental. So far so good. Big concern is getting my body (and mind) ready to race again after the Trans Am. I'd love to be able to put down competitive times in both, but I don't know if a month and a bit is enough time to recover. I just hope that my love for riding bikes will get me through!

What time of year would that be!? Triple crown would be awesome, but there is *no* way I can afford three races on three continents in one year! Would be really interested to hear some more details about it though, is there a website?

I played around with the gpx file in topofusion. Simplified it into 10,000 points and split it into 20 tracks which should work with most garmins. If you put it in topo fusion you can look at each track, see the mileage elevation profile, elevation gain and loss of each segment.
Let me know if this works or not.

Some of us are planning on doing a training session for the Trans Am Race in Borrego Springs California, probably mid to late March of this year. Closest Airports are San Diego or Palm Springs. Hotels & camping in Borrego Springs plus stores and restaraunts. Great winter getaway. Lots of route options, some weather dependent. Here are the links to some rides we came up with: 1. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/38786542. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/38786603. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3878693One of the rides (#3) goes from Borrego Springs into Joshua Tree National Park where we would camp for the night and come back the same way the following day. Ride #1 and #2 are are combined to give a 2 day route with camping the first night. Ride #1 can be lengthened or shortened based upon your fitness level. We could gather every night and go through the Trans Am route, equipment & bike setup ideas, etc. Probably a Monday through Friday timeframe so we could avoid traffic and booked campsites and rooms. Riders could opt for a shorter time frame. It would be nice if people could get into Borrego on Sunday sometime so we could make the most of the week starting Monday. No charge, so basically we are all responsible for our own logistics, safety etc. If anyone is interested or has any questions, please respond here or PM me. |
