I don't think many people here have actually ridden the GDMBR either, maybe just watched the movie ;-)
I hear you re road>dirt, but even roads can be interesting....
Re Mike having it in the bag, what about Jefe? There ain't not race up front for him!

Grin
What an awesome effort by Mike Hall and a pathetic effort by bikepacking.net forum lurkers ;-)
How is this any less interesting or exciting that the Tour Divide? This gezza had just ridden 4400MILES in less than 17 days, absolutely amazing.
Scott in NZ
I don't think the trans am is more or less exciting, it's just like any other bike packing race. but with twitter, facebook. instagram, Mtb cast etc. it's very accesable, and easy to stay up to date.the trans am has cell coverage 95% of the way. td has 5%. for this lurcker it's been pretty good following.
on another note, Jefe may still be way out in front but he's racing jps ghost.

Congratulations Mike. I've really enjoyed watching the race, and loving having an excuse to zoom in and take a look around some of the landscapes they have travelling through. Got to love google for that. All the best to everyone still out there on the road, some still have a few miles to go. This is another to add to my to do list. I even have a new bike on order on which to ride it.

Congratulations Mike! That was an impressive run, and not only for Mike...Jason Lane is "only" 100 miles out, so barring some catastrophe, he should pick up second today!

SUPER AWESOME effort Mike!!

I was fortunate enough to pick Mike up after his TDR ride, I wish I was closer to grab him up after this ride...

Mike is a gem to have the pleasure to work with.  All of us at Pivot have been stalking him and cheering for him on this grand adventure.  He had a bit of a shipping misfortune with his bike and we were psyched we could be here for him.  Truly an incredible person and effort!!

GO MIKE!!

You guys must be very happy - looks like there will be 2 Pivots in the top 3!
I'm wondering how I can get the money together to splash out on a Vault....

Congratulations Jason, excellent ride! It must of been hard chasing Mike with that bag on your back the whole time. I know I'd have been cursing it if I had to keep it on.  And look looks like Ed is moving again and has 200 miles to go, so I nice 12 hour spin for him. On a different note, I'm sure the Vault is a nice frame but it's the sleep strategy that seems to make the real difference.

Awesome ride Ed! You didn't have an easy journey to the start, then had to chase two complete machines to the finish. It's been a great race to watch.

Ed will be chuffed with that I reckon at just 23 years old.  Looking like a great race for 4th, rooting for Juliana over this last stretch.

This battle for 4th is looking intense! Whoever stops the least should get it....

Ran into Derek and Angeline today in Emporia, KS, which is about 50 miles off route.  They said they were taking the shortest route to the East Coast, and were going to try to make another ~60 miles tonight and staying in Ottawa, KS.  It sucks they had to bail on the course, but good on them for continuing on regardless.  Also good to see fellow bikepackers in Emporia!  Sure beats the gravel grinders we have around here, haha.  (I'm probably getting kicked out of our Thursday Night Ride for saying that!)
