Assuming I can stay healthy, I'm planning on V10 and the Masters Program. I'm a sucker for punishment, and for seeing my state.

It's a little easier to do when you don't have to travel across parts of three states to make the starting line. The amount of time spent riding the events isn't too bad.

Yeah I agree. I am looking at putting down at most 3 months of riding for Iowa. I think with the back to back rides on Saturday/Sunday, that is how much the family can endure. The most is somewhere around 6-7 hrs each day. Good thing this plan is short.

The longest ride I had before TIV9 was 8 hours and I did that the Sunday before the race. Lots of 2 - 4 hour rides during the weeks leading up to the race, and then started getting into one longer ride on a weekend day for the month before. I tried to keep the longer rides to early mornings or late evenings just to break things up and so my wife would actually know I was still alive. Lots of trainer time for me over the winter just so she could sit and talk with me.

I find that interesting as I had a plan last year to do my biggest ride on the weekend before. As a triathlete, I thought there should be some tapering of some sort. 3 months and I am sticking to it.
As always, I hope I stay healthy. Right now, the summer, kids and 6 races has me burned out.
I do look forward to making the switch. Sadly, I was over in the winter riding forum and watched a video by JayP on what to wear when layering. I think the message thread was about keeping your junk warm, ha! I thought that was downer but exciting at the same time. Who doesn't like getting new gear. Especially if it works.

The person that built my training program for me is a triathlete. I was concerned about the timing of the ride with the race being a week away, but he hadn't steered me wrong before. And since it was a "race pace" ride and not an 8 hour hammerfest, I only ended up with about 110 - 115 miles for the 8 hours. By the time Saturday AM came around, I was raring to go. The only real post ride issues I had, other than regular fatigue, were some minor knee stiffness for a couple of days afterwards. Ice took care of those issues. You have a good distance base as a triathlete so I think you'll be fine with a 3 month build.

How many months did it take for you to prepare? I am going through all the gear right now. Its just tinkering with a few things but just that and some nutrition and figuring out where to put 4 22 oz bottles. Anyways, I have a plan for 3 months and I have already been riding at the most 2 to 3 hrs.

I started on Jan 1 with the program. I did do a HR and power zone test in late December.

Do the majority of people end up bringing a support vehicle, ie just in case im stranded? Although early, it could be tough for me to find someone.

Make sure you have a bail out ride pre-arranged somehow.

I was shocked at how quickly the rookie spots filled this year. Congratulations on getting in!

I was shocked also. I was sleeping all morning, due to being sick, and when I woke up around lunch, bam, sold out
Are you racing?

I'm in! Absolutely terrified. Time for some very long rides. Need to figure out whether to use my Niner with drop bars or my Cross Check with fatter tires. And which tires to use. And how to carry my gear. And nutrition for 120+ miles of no resupply overnight.
