I've proposed a slightly different take on the triplecrown - a singletrack version.  AZTR, CTR, and the new California Sierra Trail Race (CSTR), the date of which popular demand moved to Labor Day weekend instead of conflicting with the CTR.

Nothing against the TD - long, hard bikepacking, however you cut it - but it seems to me that a lot of us aren't all that into riding 2800 miles of dirt road.  I know I'm not.  So I thought I'd see what kind of support the singletrack version could have... so far a few folks seem into it, as per discussion on the CSTR thread.

This whole triplecrown thing is kind of silly anyway... but fun. Smiley

Have at it then!
And as far as I know the only people who say that the TD is nothing but jeep roads are the same people that have yet to do it!
Its sooooo much more.
Good luck!

Okay, namewise, I propose "The More Fun, Less-of-what-I've-seen-in-every-photo-and-video-of-the-TD-ever-but-I-haven't-done-it, Singletrack Triplecrown of Bikepacking".  It's got a ring to it, doesn't it?  (Of course I'm just joshing you.)

Like I said, this whole idea is kinda silly.  Humans do like to attach arbitrary significance to groupings of things.  But it is still fun!

Hells, but then we still have to do all those darned jeep roads!  Plus, three is a magic number.  Just ask CrashDog.

How about the Grand Slam.
AZTR, CTR, CSTR, Dixie 300

Or to one up even the Grand Slam. Get on your bike art the Mexico border in Az. Ride the AZTR, continue on to Durango, ride the CTR, pedal from Denver to St George, ride the Dixie, ride to Cali and ride the CSTR.

get on it!

Me, I'm too busy at the shop.  Not quite crazy enough either!

For outright diversity, it's hard to beat JP's triple effort. Snow, road, dirt.

But Joey's idea of the three "mountain" rides is pretty damn cool. If I had the time, that's what I'd shoot for!

Going for three of ANY of these races is awesome. Good luck, and may the Gods of Adventure give you strength, wisdom, and patience!

I'll second that for sure!  I'd also add "immense willpower" to the list...

Not that I have a dog in this, but I do see the big three as TD (usurping the original GDMBR), AZTR, CTR.

Where the CSTR, Dixie, Coco, TNG, ect fit in, not sure.

I gave notice and I finally got that accessory pathway in my in heart ablated. So I'm ready to spend a lot of time in the saddle this year. No promises on finishing them all, but I'm aiming to do the Stagecoach 400, AZT 750, TDR, and CTR. If I haven't returned to work yet, then I'm in for the CSTR too.

Call it whatever crown you want...I'm just looking forward to 2013.

Any 3 are tough enough - trust me-last year I began this mess and after wearing the wrong shoes on the TDR and a day later biking the length of Vietnam had to bail on the CTR cause I could not even walk let alone thinking about getting on a bike-with the TDR added in it is a lot of time no matter who you are in a bike shoe that is not the most forgiving on the toes-good luck to all who try Kurt's times are gonna be hard to beat--I am only doing 2 this year - my new race that Jay P and I have dreamed up from Fairbanks to Dawson Creek I am calling the AlCan Bike Race (see ultrarace and alcan threads) --then heading over to Seattle in tour mode with the wife - and a week later the backwards CTR (which I think will actually be harder than the conventional way)-- unless you count the vapor trail 125 - 2 will be plenty for me this year. Good luck on the AZT - hopefully someone out there did a bit of trail maintenance on the Highline (I doubt it)

Resurrecting this thread a bit here... who's in for the triple crown this year besides Max?  Anyone else want to be brave enough to admit they are going for all 3?

For what it's worth, I agree with Tim (quoted) above.  AZT/TD/CTR are the big three -- the longest standing bikepacking races.  The classics, if you will.

Umm...I probably wasn't clear enough in my earlier post. I'm in for the triple crown (and more).

Awesome, Forest.  Warming up with the Stagecoach.... nice.  I still don't have your spot info for that, BTW.

It'll be fun to follow both of you.  Anyone else?

Maybe next year, already have my triple in the works!

I am in on the group start if my bike gets here in time for the AZT in 12 days.  I think I might end up having to do an ITT a couple days after the group start based on when I expect the bike to arrive.  We'll see how things pan out but I am ready for the AZT 750 no matter what.

So I am in for the Triple, got all expenses paid!
