So now that the  BikePacking Season is comming to a close, I am already day dreaming of next season's tours.
Here are my penciled in 2010 dreams:

  • 1. Do a thru ride ITT of the Coconino Loop 250 - late spring/early summer - I've done over 50% of the course, but never all linked together in one shot.
  • 2. Complete my first CTR  - July/Aug group start.
  • 3. See how fast I can do TransUtah (St. George to Boulder) - September.  Now that I've done the route, I think I could do it in 5, maybe 4 days with some good weather and fitness.  This may depend on if that Trail Crew (that Blair talked to) gets the trees cleaned up on the GWTrail.

Of course I need to talk with the family and I may need to pick 2 out of 3....
But hey, gotta start with a dream!

How about your dreams/plans for 2010?

So far the biggies are looking like:

Arrowhead 135
Iditarod to McGrath (somehow...)
Grand Loop
Colorado Trail

So far anything beyond that and even the Colorado Trail becomes highly suspect if Marni and I actually finally get lucky enough to get and stay pregnant. To say there are other ideas floating around would also be true but after the Divide this year I'd like to be in Colorado in late May/June to enjoy a classic couloir season. A few more classic 100's (Breck) may also be on the to do list.

Troy,

I am looking to make the Coconino Loop 350 on the 2010 late spring/early summer calendar, would you be interested in that?

----------------------------------------------

As of now my tentative bikepacking calendar

AZ Trail 300
Coconino Loop 350 (?)
Grand Loop (in my car this time, instead of on the bike)
Bikepacking Trip in Peru/Colorado/Continental Divide Trail (anyone wanna join? not sure which one yet)
Colorado Trail Race (depends on start date and school)
Coconino Loop Stage Race 250

I want to create a Southern California stage race, maybe this winter?

I was planning on doing the complete AZT, maybe do it during the AZT300 and keep going?

I would be game the Coco stage race was good I would like to do one in SE AZ as well.

You could start the day before the 300 and pick up riding along the border as well as some ST where the AZT come out of the Miller Peak Wilderness, there is a spiral pictograph I want to go and see, 100 feet into the wilderness. I have been out that way twice but I didn't know about it, then camp at Parker Canyon Lake and join the 300.

Annual bikepacking trip to Arkansas.
The Colorado Trail (though not the race)
Bikepacking trip in NC in June
Random overnighters in town.

I refuse to spend another summer stuck in Texas.  It was ok this past summer due to our newborn, but we got a pop-up now and will be dragging that thing across the US next summer.

Oh, and who said the bikepacking season is over?  In the south we get to ride all winter!

You'll get your CT Travis, I know it. It's so beautiful in any fashion.

Ah man...this summer following the Tour Divide I was captivated...But one more year, 2011 I think. So I am gonna go for the triple crown plus, AZT 300, GLR, CTR, and maybe Trans-Utah and the Coco. I think I may even train for it this year, I had a lot of fun out there, going fast...but who knows so much do to, and this whole work thing really gets in the way..peace Jefe

Back to back triple crowns would be impressive, there Jefe.

I'll be bikepacking and racing next year but not on a set schedule.  AZT300 and Coconino Stage Race are in for sure.  I will take a pass on the Grand Loop for another 3+ years, I think.  CTR and TU are a strong maybe.

Otherwise I want to bikepack and explore something new.  A thru-trip on the GET trail is a possibility in the spring.  And there's some big talk about a full CDT trip, and that would be a massive trip.

ahhhhhhhhhh siiiiiiii. As you mentioned earlier in a comment, it was great to see an exploration/dream of a route come to fruition. It is hard to quantify how you feel after you finish an endurance race, even harder when you design it and make it happen.

I wanna explore more.... and am excited to see other folks (like in SoCal) wanting to do the same.

Impressive indeed. You one hellova job last year, hope to ride again with you soon, perhaps in the right direction/time.

Just to toss this out there now:

Trans Utah is a work in progress.  The first half is complete.  The second half, from Boulder to Moab, is a work in progress - and will be most interesting next year.

The original plan was to run the 2nd half next year, and the full deal in 2011.  However, I am gravitating towards running the StG - Boulder segment in the mid june to july 1 time frame, and the Boulder to Moab segment in the fall, no later than Nov 1 but probably more like Oct 1.

Mid June is an optimal time for the West side of TU - especially if the goal is to go fast.  More light, more water.

The date for the East half will depend on how high the route ascends into the Henrys...and you may need a flotation device Smiley

Looks like maybe a rope would help too !!!!!

Looking forward to how you route the Boulder to Moab segment.
Yeah Maybe a good idea (on paper) to switch West TU to June and Coco 250 to September/October...

CTR.  I have ridden and raced on parts of the route.  I am ready for a new challenge on the bike in 2010, so the CTR will be that new challenge.

I might do the German SSC in May. Here in Germany we don't have any unsupported multi day races, I'll do some of my own to get ready for the TDR.
