For those interested in joining myself and a couple others riding ITT's on the AlCan Highway next month--or still thinking about it-yes it will happen even if it winds up just being one of us-

START-June 21 where highways 2 and 3 collide in Fairbanks at 2:58 AM (sunup) Fairbanks
(See website for map and details)

FINISH-Dawson Creek at the Welcome to the AlCan Highway sign

TRACKING-live tracking on website will be provided by trackleaders - please go to site and give them a donation and send your share page to Scott or Matt or me and I will forward.

Hope to see some of you up there where the sun never really sets-and best of luck to the masses heading to Banff for the TDR-after 3 years it seems a bit strange not riding the divide but change is good-and with all you fast riders I would be afraid the stores would be out of swiss rolls by the time I hit the towns.

Best to you on your adventure.  Sorry I can't join you this year to help represent our age class.

Hey Dave,
maybe you remember me, we stayed together in Banff last year before TD2012 start. And we were riding together some parts of the route. I learned a lot from you and your stories ...
Will follow your route an AlCan ...
Stay tuned.

Ten hours into the race and Dave has already devoured 145 miles.  Amazing.

Dave is entering the most scenic 100 miles of the Alcan highway.  And doing it at still a blistering pace.

He DesertPolo

do you know more about this kind of "race"?
Compared to the Tour Divide?
As far as I see, it is one single double-trailed road, isn't it?

The entire route is now pavement.  The pavement is good quality with a shoulder to ride on through Alaska, gets a bit broken up in places where Dave is now riding, and then gets better further east.  The traffic of trucks and recreation vehicles can be annoying but the scenery is tops.  The mosquitoes are outrageous and a good incentive to keep on pedaling.  Winds are typically out of the west so the tailwind can be a blast.  Not much in the way of mountain passes to climb but low rolling hills can be common and add up to an ambitious day of elevation gain.  This year the temperatures are uncommonly high and the persistent rainfall is on hiatus.  Dave has picked a good year for this ride.
