I ride my bike with studded tires as far as possible into the mountains and then switch to snowshoes once the bike gets stuck.  The snowshoes are attached to my day pack while I'm riding.  I would rather ski than snowshoe on some days but haven't figured out a way to carry skis and poles.  Has anyone come up with a way to carry skis either attached to a rear rack or strapped to a day pack (or a combination of the two)?

I've just strapped them parallel to the top tube, using a bit of accessory cord. Works well enough.

Simple and (mostly) elegant.  Thanks.

Well, this morning went well. I strapped the skis to the head tube and seat post with the tails far forward so my knees didn't hit the bindings. Tight straps with foam padding kept everything firmly in place and with no rattles. I ended up wearing the ski boots since it was only five miles to where I had to ditch the bike. The boots are stiff but comfortable.

Could use some help here on posting pictures and having them not appear too large on the screen.

Nice. Scarpa T4s? Or excursions? I'm on some madschuss epochs and the T4s with 3 pin and cables. Love that setup. Been chasing the wife and kids around the lift served area all winter on it.

Scarpa T3 -- from that era when they were designed to be heavy, uncomfortable for day-long trips, and noisy.  Seem to make good bicycling shoes though.

Love my Madschuss.  I should just put some BC bindings on those Outabounds and retire the T3s.  Madshcuss retrofitted as clipless?  Hmm...

a little late for this season, anyway......if you can put a tubus cargo rack on your bike, it carries skis like they were made for it. Jammed into the top, it wedges skis in solidly, i've taken skis loaded up in a Tubus up to 40mph on a descent off chinook pass in WA state. also, the top tube method is standard., a rack off the back allows the carry from headtube rearward, and a tubus cargo rack front 'horns' also is set up well for this carry. pics later, i don't have them loaded on a server, but you can see the ski carry here in spots in this video from a spring ski trip to rainier.   http://youtu.be/yjW6mTrazXY

also, the standard PVC tube ski carrier seen in summit county and elsewheres is a heavy, but legit, bike accessory to hose clamp to your bike for the winter for dedicated ski-bikers.

I have bungeed them to the TT and seen others do the same. This may be a better option.
