For what purpose?  Cruising around or full on expedition?

Do what the CX skiers and snow runners do with a simple plastic sled?  Can cut off the back if it's too long.  Could even add skis to it but probably not needed.  You'd need to figure a way to pull it properly (from hip width and crossing poles) so it doesn't fishtail like crazy.

I think I've got the attachment to the bike figured out, and was thinking of using one of those plastic sleds. I have seen cross country skiers using a more heavy duty sled. I'm not sure how long a "toy" sled would hold up, especially where I would have to anchor the sled to what I would pull it with

Paris Expedition Pulks are a good starting point. Light but tough and easy to 'cut-to-size', as we did when we made our 'Incredible Rulks!' (rucksack pulks that we could carry or tow on XC skis, depending on terrain).

Billy Koitzsch of http://www.arcticcycles.com/ and http://www.iditasportalaska.com/the-race/ talks a little about his here:
Dogs aren't the only ones racing on the Iditarod Trail
...you don't get to see it though...He also used it for his 2000 mile trip here: http://www.newsminer.com/features/outdoors/koitzsch-becomes-first-person-to-bike-length-of-iditarod-iron/article_d112ca94-a7fe-11e2-a8aa-001a4bcf6878.html ...there are pics of the sled somewhere on the web, just not sure where...

I came back from a ski tour (this was a few years ago)... and since the bike was in the car, I hooked the sled  up and gave it a tug around the parking lot.

Not sure it would be so easy in deep snow.
