This sounds like good clean fun. However while not a newbie to snowbiking or ultras, I am a newbie to a 50 or 10 mile snowbike race. I think this one could fit the bill as a good "starter" for me. So any advice would be appreciated, I would just like to finish in one piece and have fun. So here goes with the questions.
1_Gear. I imagine bring gear to weather the night if need be? What are people using? er, maybe a quick and drty gearlist? 2_If it snows 2 feet during the night can riders expect the trail to be groomed, or does the deathmarching begin? 3_Will my 80mm rims suffice? Are people there running 100's?
Any help would be very appreciated to get me off and running on the right foot.
Thx,
Erik

Erik - We look forward to meeting you and having a great weekend!
Overall it is pretty friendly snow bike terrain. The route takes place on and/or paralleling an old railroad bed so not to steep either. Not a lot of elevation gain but some. Start at about 5000' and cross over CDT (state line, mountain range) at about 7000' and it is more flat terrain then rolling. More in depth description to come...
Questions; 1 - If your going to do the full Gran Fondo (100 miles), gear to weather the night makes sense. There are places to sleep/resupply at aprox miles 25, 50 and 75 you decide.... Typical day kit with some insulation and maybe wind protection.
2 - The grooming in this area is pretty amazing. They have a huge network to do but are constantly in rotation, some trails see more grooming/traffic then others and I do have a few snow machine volunteers that want help out. We are going to suggest the route that is in the best shape when the time comes, there are several options of trails that will get you to the destination.
3 - 80's will be fine, 100's could be better?
We went and rode up there Thanksgiving weekend and it was all good with not even being groomed yet just snow machine packed but didn't see any snow machines, which is typical and sweet! Tracey went up again this past weekend and also had great riding.
Keep an eye on the blog and feel free to ask any other questions.
Thanks, Jay

Wonder what the conditions will bring us....it's been a highway for weeks and it probably still is right now but the weather man is currently teasing us with snow predictions...time will tell...hoot, hoot!

Unfortunately my two year old got me a cold. Coupled with the weather forecast and prospect of driving two ways in a blizzard the prudent choice is, unfortunately , to sit this one out. I was looking forward to it for weeks. Bummer. Hope there is another one.....
